Reflection
Fourth Week of Easter – Good Shepherd Sunday
As we gathered on the Fourth Sunday of Easter, also known as Good Shepherd Sunday, we were reminded of one of the most comforting and powerful images in the Gospel – Jesus as the Good Shepherd who knows each of us by name, who calls us, and who lays down His life for us.
This image speaks deeply to the heart of our mission as a Catholic school in the Edmund Rice tradition. Like the Good Shepherd, we are called to create a community where every student feels known, valued, and supported. In our classrooms, on our playgrounds, and in our daily interactions, we strive to echo the love and care that Christ models for us.
In John’s Gospel, Jesus says, 'I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me.' This mutual recognition and trust forms the foundation of strong relationships – both with God and with one another. It invites us to reflect on how we lead, how we serve, and how we follow.
Good Shepherd Sunday is also traditionally a time to pray for vocations – to the priesthood, to religious life, and to all paths of service within the Church and the wider world. It is a moment to consider how we might use our own gifts in service to others, just as the Good Shepherd does.
As we move forward in the Easter season, may we continue to listen for the voice of the Shepherd in our lives – a voice that calls us to compassion, courage, and community.

Founder’s Day Mass and Celebrations
Founder’s Week concluded with our annual Founder’s Day celebrations, marking a special moment of reflection and gratitude within our community.
We extend our sincere thanks to the entire St Pius X community, especially to those who played a role in organising and supporting the Founder’s Day Mass. A special note of appreciation goes to Fr David, who generously presided over the celebration of the Eucharist for the second time during the week. His uplifting message - reminding us of our shared ability to transform the world through acts of service - resonated deeply with all in attendance.
It is through these moments of unity and purpose that we are reminded of the enduring values at the heart of our College.
Similar to Mother’s Day, the College musicians and choir delivered an outstanding performance. One of the many highlights was the drumline, kicking off the mass celebration in a remarkable manner. Special recognition is due to Mrs Westhoff, Mrs Talati, Mr Cummins, Ms Gan, Mr Saar, Mr Balboa, Ms Matthews and Mr Jones for their incredible support of the Performing Arts.
I extend my heartfelt thanks to Mr. Petrie for composing a meaningful Eucharist for our entire community.
I would also like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Mr Gillogly, Mr Ticli, and the Pastoral Team for their outstanding coordination of our Founder’s Day events. Their efforts ensured the day was both meaningful and memorable.
The atmosphere was elevated by vibrant performances, including the much-enjoyed staff band and the highly entertaining Year 12 Lip-sync competition, which was met with enthusiastic support from House groups across the College.
A special thank you goes to all our Year 12 students for their spirited participation throughout the week’s activities - especially in the Lip-sync event. Your energy and commitment helped make this celebration a truly enjoyable and unifying experience for the entire community.
Year 7 Football Team Shines at EREA Rice Cup
Our Year 7 football team proudly represented the College at the second EREA Rice Cup, held at Valentine Sports Park on Wednesday, 14 May. While the team experienced mixed results on the scoreboard - narrowly losing several games by just a single goal - they remained highly competitive throughout the tournament.
What stood out most, however, was the remarkable display of College spirit. The team played each match with determination and exemplary sportsmanship, warmly applauding their opponents at the conclusion of every game, regardless of the outcome.
Congratulations to all team members, and sincere thanks to their coaches, Mr Wheatley and Mr Lacey for guiding the students and representing the College with pride at this statewide event involving EREA schools across New South Wales (and Canberra).
Recognition of Student Achievement from Term 1 Reports
At this point in the term, I would typically have shared with the community the names of students who received an 'Outstanding' average in one or more areas on their Term 1 Interim Report.
However, due to recent changes in our reporting system, there has been an unexpected delay in the release of these reports.
As soon as they become available, I look forward to proudly acknowledging and celebrating these students' achievements with the wider College community.

Rugby Supporter's Day – A Celebration of Spirit and Sport
We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who joined us for the Rugby Supporters Day - a vibrant celebration of community, spirit, and sport. Your presence, encouragement, and involvement made the day truly memorable for our students, staff, and families. Special thanks to our Rugby families who contributed to the cake stall.
From the sidelines to the Old Boy’s BBQ, the canteen and everywhere in between, the energy and support from our community was evident. It is through such collective enthusiasm that the true spirit of our College comes alive, reminding us of the strength and unity we share.
A special congratulations goes to our rugby teams, especially our First XV who demonstrated outstanding passion, determination, and competitiveness throughout their matches. Regardless of the final scores, their commitment to teamwork, sportsmanship, and representing the College with pride was clear in every play. Their efforts on the field were a credit to themselves, their coaches, and the entire school community.
A special thank you to our drumline for leading the First XV onto the field and delivering an impressive halftime performance. Their contribution added an extra touch of excellence to an already outstanding day.
Events like Rugby Supporter's Day are more than just about sport - they are about coming together, celebrating our values, and supporting one another. Thank you once again to all families, friends, staff, and students who contributed to making the day such a success. We look forward to many more occasions where we can gather in celebration and support of our students.
Wishing all our sporting teams the very best for this weekend’s games! Play with passion, teamwork, and sportsmanship. We are proud of your dedication and effort. Go out there, give it your all, and enjoy every moment on the field. Good luck to everyone!
Go the Blue and Gold!
