Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Carers,

This weekend is Mothers’ Day, a special day to celebrate with our mums or the other special people in our lives that care for us and nurture us. This year, instead of a Mothers’ Day stall, we are holding a Mothers’ Day Breakfast where mums, aunties, grandmas and anyone who cares for a child will be spoilt with a light breakfast. The RSVP closed yesterday, so that we could prepare for the event. For those who have RSVP your children are welcome to attend as well. They will have breakfast from Breakfast Club, with mum’s and carers having more adult-like food. We hope you enjoy being spoilt in this way.

Acceptable Use of Technology:

This week, students brought home a new note to sign, giving permission to access technology, such as an iPad, at school. This new note is in response to the new guidelines the Department has recently released about using technology in schools. Please return the note signed by yourself and your child by WEDNESDAY 14th May. Anyone who has not returned their note by this date will not be able to access their iPad until the note is received. Thank you for your assistance with this.

Prep Enrolments 2026 Open:

If you or somebody you know has a child turning 5 before 30th April 2026, they are eligible to attend school in 2026. All children have a guaranteed place in their local school, and some schools, like ours, can accept enrolments outside their designated area. If you feel they are ready to start school next year and would like to find out more about what we have to offer, please call the office to join one of our small group tours. These are fortnightly on a Wednesday from 9.30am or monthly in the evening at 6.00pm. To help with organising staff and preparing for an effective transition program, enrolments should be received by the end of July 2025.

Application for Year 7 Placement 2025 Form:

Our Year 6s recently received a handout about the process of enrolling in secondary school for 2026. The first part of this process is to complete the form included and return to the school by tomorrow FRIDAY 9th May 2025. We collate the information and pass onto the secondary schools. They then inform us who they have accepted, and we will pass this on to parents/carers on Tuesday 1st July 2025. You will need to return the Year 7 Placement Acceptance Slip by Tuesday 12th August 2025. If you do not get your preferred school, you can put in an appeal in writing to the school you prefer by Friday 25th July, with notification of the outcome sent in writing by Tuesday 5th August. If your appeal to the school is not accepted, you can then appeal to the Region by 19th August. You will be notified of a final outcome by 10th October 2025. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns, and PLEASE ensure your form is returned by 9th May.

Items of personal property that are lost, stolen or damaged at school is not the responsibility of Melton West Primary School or the Department.
