Upper Primary Term 2

Visual Arts

Our term 2 program focussed on diverse cultural backgrounds. Students created artworks inspired by artists, emphasising storytelling and purpose. They also reflected on art through constructive feedback, deepening their appreciation of each other's art.

A highlight was our watercolor projects inspired by local artist Pete Cromer and New Yorker; James Rizzi, whose vibrant styles inspired our students.

Digital Tech

The Upper Primary students have been improving their laptop and keyboarding skills. They have been playing games that practise their mouse skills, as well as using them to create artworks on their laptops. Students enjoyed finishing the term by reviewing learning on the iPads and playing with the Dash Robots.

Music

Band work and ensemble jams have been the focus of Upper Primary music classes throughout term 2.  Students have been working hard on playing different instrumental parts to their classmates, while staying together and in time as a band.  Both workshops and the song ‘Watermelon Sugar’ have been springboards for this unit.

PE

Students in Upper Primary have enjoyed learning more about soccer as well as dodging and tagging games this term. They enjoyed practising running, kicking, passing and shooting skills with their peers. Students learnt to reflect on what went well and what was challenging for them during each session.

Social Competencies

The Upper Primary cohort has continued exploring and understanding what they require from their learning environment and themselves as learners. They have focused on maintaining useful strategies, such as guided meditation, the use of fidgets, and additional movement breaks, to support their readiness for learning. At the end of each session, students engage in discussions about what they felt went well in their learning.

The Drug Education unit continued, focusing on the dangers of household substances when instructions are not followed or when products are misused. Students learned to always check item labels for safety warning symbols before use and understand that seeking adult support is a key safety strategy. They also explored the risks associated with medicines, emphasizing that they can be dangerous if misused. They recognized the importance of consulting a trusted adult when using medicines, especially when learning how to read and interpret important information on medicine labels.

Additionally, students explored the topic of Cyber Safety, examining the definition of online safety and creating a list of online values they expect from themselves and others. They discussed useful strategies for situations where their values are not respected. As part of this unit, they identified the key aspects of cyberbullying and emphasised the importance of seeking adult support when facing unsafe online situations.
