Holy Cross Happenings

UBUNTU ARE COMING TO HOLY CROSS!
We are delighted to welcome Ubuntu - a group of 14 young Africans, to Holy Cross.
During their stay, Ubuntu will host a workshop with our students and spend time in classrooms and on the yard. They will also be living with 7 generous Holy Cross families during their three night stay. This will give them a chance to experience life in the Macedon Ranges.
The highlight of the tour will be a concert to be held on Thursday 26th June at 7pm. Ubuntu will perform a 90 minute showcase of song, dance and storytelling. It promises to be a memorable and heartwarming experience for all. Our school choir will also perform on stage with Ubuntu - an amazing opportunity for our students!
Tickets are on sale very soon. We will send out an Operoo with details of how to purchase.
UBUNTU Africa empowers graduates of the Choir to share their talents globally, while raising support for the next generation. To date, the African Children’s Choir has supported more than 54,000 children through education and mentorship. Since 2011, Kwaya Australia has supported the African Children’s Choir by being involved in life-changing education projects and have hosted several international tours that bring Africa and Australia closer together.
Holy Cross are proud to work in solidarity with Kwaya in making a difference to the lives of these young Africans.
Year 5 Visit to Sacred Heart
Last Tuesday Sacred Heart welcomed Grade 5 students from local primary schools for a special Discovery Day.
The children enjoyed a fun and engaging program, with one of their favourite activities, making Delious apricot balls with the Hospitality students.
Salesian Visit
On Thursday Salesian welcomed students from local feeder schools for their first Grade 5 Taster Days.
After tours of the beautiful campus, with the help from the friendly student leaders, our children dived into some exciting hands-on sessions in science, STEM and Agriculture, giving the children a real taste of life at Salesian College.
It was fantastic to see the curiosity and enthusiasm in action, especially during lawn games and conversations with Mr Brockhus over lunch on the mansion lawns.
A big thank you to the staff and student leaders for creating such a warm and welcoming experience.
Celebrating Mother's Day at Holy Cross
This week, our school community came together to celebrate the wonderful mothers and mother figures in our lives.
A big thank you to our amazing PFA for organising the Mother’s Day Stall. It’s a much-loved tradition that our children look forward to each year. They take such pride in carefully choosing a gift, often with great secrecy, and can’t wait to surprise their loved ones on Sunday. We hope you all enjoy the special gifts chosen just for you.
We’d also like to thank Mel and Michelle for preparing our Year 2 children to lead the Mother’s Day Prayer Gathering, thank you as well to the families who joined us.
After the gathering, our students enjoyed some special time with their families in the classrooms, following a lovely afternoon tea for mums. It was a joy to see so many smiles and shared moments.
To all the mothers, grandmothers, and carers in our community, we wish you a joyful and love-filled Mother’s Day.
Sharing Best Practice
Staff Attend 'Sharing Best Practice' Conference
While many were heading to the polls last Saturday, a group of our dedicated teachers were up early and off to Craigieburn to attend the inaugural Sharing Best Practice (SBP) Melbourne North West Conference.
The conference brought together educators, academics, and allied health professionals from across the region to highlight evidence-based practices in some of Melbourne’s most culturally diverse schools.
Our staff took part in a packed day of professional learning, including:
- A Pioneering Principal Panel on implementing evidence-based instruction
- Presentations from leading experts such as Manisha Gazula, Nathaniel Swain, and Dave Morkunas
- Sessions on inclusion, EAL strategies, reading and writing, mathematics, leadership, and more
We came away feeling energised, inspired, and optimistic about our work. It was a fantastic opportunity to reflect on what we’re doing well and how we can continue to grow.
