Dramafest

Students from Years 9, 10 and 11 recently had the exciting opportunity to attend Dramafest at the Newcastle Civic Theatre. The day was filled with energy, creativity, and valuable learning experiences. Students took part in a variety of engaging activities that helped build their performance skills and deepen their understanding of theatre. It was wonderful to see them step out of their comfort zones and grow in confidence.
The workshops were tailored to each year group, and were facilitated by industry professionals, who offered rich and diverse learning opportunities. Year 9 students explored the fundamentals of puppetry, learning how to literally bring objects to life through breath and movement. Year 10 and 11 students focused on physical theatre, discovering how to use their bodies to create symbolic meaning on stage using only their bodies. Then, all three year groups came together for a high-energy comedy workshop, where they developed skills in character creation and explored the role of rhythm and timing in making an audience laugh.
We are incredibly grateful to ASPIRE and Catholic Schools Maitland-Newcastle for organising and hosting such a fantastic event. It was a truly inspiring experience that left students feeling motivated and enthusiastic about Drama.
