Ryan’s Rambling

Dear Families,

We have a smattering of wintry weather this week; however, it has been nice to end the week with some sunshine. I hope you’re all staying warm as we adjust to the colder weather.

On Friday of last week, our six School Leaders represented Dana Street at the Arch ANZAC Ceremony. Over the course of the ceremony, our students learnt about former Dana Street students who paid the ultimate sacrifice during the war. The ceremony was, as always, moving and a good reminder of our history. It was a proud moment when Dana Street Primary School was publicly thanked and our students were given the task of laying both a wreath and a poppy for each for the honoured deceased. Our leaders conducted themselves respectfully during the wreath laying and took a moment together, to reflect on the importance of showing gratitude for the lives that we are able to lead today.

On Wednesday of this week, our School and House Captains attended the GRIP Leadership Conference at Federation University, along with approximately 500 students from schools as far away as Port Fairy. The day was spent getting our students out of their comfort zones and challenging them to think about the skills and attitudes necessary to lead.

Thank you to the many parents who have put their names down to support our Democracy Sausage Sizzle tomorrow. Dana Street will be an official polling site for the Federal Election, so if you are voting tomorrow, please consider coming here and enjoying a Democracy Sausage and raise some funds for our school.

Next week, our school celebrates Mother’s Day by opening our school for a fantastic community morning, where all are welcome. There are a variety of activities that parents, grandparents and significant people in students’ lives can quarantine some time to be ‘in the moment’ together. We do this, not just because it is a great time for our students and families, but because we firmly believe that the best gifts can be the gifts of time together. We hope to see many of our families here next Friday.

Have a fantastic weekend.

Ryan
