Term Two

As we head into Term 2, it is worth reminding students and their families to reflect on the benefits of being part of the music program. We have had a few students come in saying they are not passionate anymore and are quitting. There will be times when learning a musical instrument feels tedious and interest wanes. Students need to look at the big picture and imagine themselves down the track, in the next band, at the next concert or playing the next piece of music. We like to think students don’t quit but make an informed decision to discontinue, weighing up all the benefits of learning music before they do so.

ANZAC Day Performance

The first music event for the term was at the ANZAC day service last Thursday. The senior band gave stirring performances of Abide With Me, Advance Australia Fair and I Vow to Thee My Country. Special congratulations to Cooper, who yet again magnificently performed the Last Post and Rouse on his cornet.

Information Evening Year 7 (2026)

Once again, we can be very proud of our music students. Our Information Evening night saw all members of the music team step up by moving equipment, performing and making great speeches. Isabel and Juliette entertained guests in the Year 7 hub with a fabulous selection of violin duets, the senior band performed during the formal presentations and our new music captains gave beautiful speeches on how important the music program has been for them. Meanwhile, everyone from junior band, string ensemble and senior band helped with the movement of gear and setting up. Well done to all!

Autumn Concert

The music centre is very busy getting back into form ready for the Autumn Concert next week. Information about this concert is available on Compass for performers and there is an expectation that families confirm student attendance. The concert will feature all the school ensembles, including the junior groups, only started this year. The concert starts at 7.00 pm in Boucher Hall. Please note, the audience needs to enter via the Wallace Street entrance as the ramps are being fixed at the front door.

Music Uniforms

We are still hoping the new music shirts will arrive by the Autumn Concert next week. When they do, all juniors will be notified. Keep your eye on Compass. In the meantime, please ensure students have fully black shoes and black socks or tights.
