Highlighting 7E

Mr Deacon and 7E
Mr Deacon and 7E

This term, in Mathematics, we are looking at Measurement and Geometry and then moving on to Statistics and Probability and Algebra, with a continual focus on important Number concepts such as Multiplication tables. Homework for Mathematics will consist of a take home sheet, MyNumeracy, incomplete multiplication tables work and, at times, student specific work.

In Literacy, we are looking at picture books by Margaret Wild, such as ‘Chalk Boy’, ‘The Feather’ and ‘The Treasure Box’. We will delve in to the themes evident in these books and then move on to a unit on Poetry. The students are expected to complete 15-20 minutes reading each night as well as some students receiving work to help improve specific needs.

In both these subjects’ opportunities to work individually and in groups will be given to the students. Our focus on overall relationship building amongst class members, respect for self, others and the environment and giving best effort will continue. The aim is to empower all of the children, continue their growth and allow them the confidence to make mistakes and to learn from them.

Woodwork

Science

In Science students in 7E are learning about Forces. They have the opportunity to build and test ramps, make a simulated ski lift to carry weight and hope these skills can translate into the ultimate goal - building a parachute to help an egg survive a great fall!

During Term 1 they showed they were capable to identify science lab equipment, use a Bunsen burner safely, and understand the scientific method.

Art

In Art, 7E are currently learning how to create a clay character using the pinch-pot technique. Students learn how to create strong joins, manipulate clay to avoid air bubbles, and to understand the ceramic process from clay to fired object and associated terminology.

PE/Health

In 7E, students have been exploring the foundations of a healthy lifestyle in Health class. They've learned about balanced diets, the importance of physical activity, and how sleep and dietary related diseases can contribute to overall health and wellbeing. This week was our final health lesson before we have our assessment next week so students have been working on some revision and research tasks to prepare.
