Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to Term 2 at Bairnsdale Secondary College.  Term 2 is shaping up to be an exciting and eventful time for everyone at our College! There will be a diverse range of activities this term—Athletics, Music, Career Profiling, and Subject Selection—it’s a perfect opportunity for students to explore new interests, strengthen their skills, and make meaningful connections.

This term offers exciting opportunities for students to build on the foundations laid in Term 1. It is a time to strengthen relationships and focus on growth.

ANZAC Day always holds great significance on our College calendar, and this year was no exception. Our student leaders led a thoughtful and respectful service at our College on Thursday 24th April, creating a ceremony that truly honoured the sacrifices made by Australian and New Zealand Armed Forces personnel over the years, both at home and abroad.  A special thank you to David Lewien from the Bairnsdale RSL, Mathew and the Bairnsdale Army Cadets 313th Cadet unit and the Bairnsdale Secondary College Senior Band for their participation in our ceremony.

On the 25th of April, our students and staff joined together for the Bairnsdale Community Commemoration march. A special mention goes to Java, a Year 9 student, who spoke at the ceremony and did a fantastic job representing our College with pride and respect.

Thank you to the staff and students who took part in our ANZAC Day celebrations. Your dedication and participation made this occasion memorable, and we are incredibly proud of you all.

This week we hosted our Information Evening for prospective 2026 Year 7 students—and what a night it was! The turnout from families was fabulous, and we believe it may have been a record-breaking attendance.

Families new to our College and those already part of our community, spent the evening exploring our College and engaging with our staff and students. Our Key Learning Areas, along with our vibrant Music Department, provided plenty of interactive displays and activities for students and families to explore and consider.

The evening concluded with an information session, highlighted by engaging presentations from both junior and senior students. I couldn’t be more proud of how our students represented our College—they were outstanding ambassadors.

A huge thank you to the Year 7 Hub team and all KLA staff who supported the event. Your efforts contributed to a truly memorable and successful evening.

Student pathways are an important focus throughout Term 2, students begin discussions around subject selections and future pathways.

  • Year 8 students will start to consider their elective options for 2026, beginning to explore areas of interest and potential strengths.
  • Year 9 students will undertake the Morrisby Career Profiling process, which provides valuable insights into career possibilities based on their interests and aptitudes.
  • Year 10 students will engage discussions with the Senior Hub and Careers staff to explore their preferences for VCE or VCE VM, helping them make informed decisions for their senior years.
  • Year 11 students will start the process of selecting their program for their final year of secondary education.
  • Year 12 students are currently engaged in individual pathways discussions around what life looks like beyond Bairnsdale Secondary College.

It’s essential that students and their families are aware of the pathway and careers support available both within the College and through external resources. We encourage open conversations at home and at school to support each student's individual journey.

If you have any questions or need further information, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Thank you to our families for the ongoing commitment and support you show to our students and staff each day.

We truly appreciate the efforts you make to ensure your children arrive at school, come prepared with the necessary equipment, and wear their uniform with pride. Your partnership plays a vital role in fostering a positive and respectful learning environment.

Your continued support makes a meaningful difference in the life of our College community—thank you.

Sincerely,
