Jessie-Rose Talbot-Cooke Claims National Title and Secures Spot on Australian Team
Jessie-Rose has punched her ticket to the top. Recently in Sydney, Year 11 student Jessie-Rose stormed her way to gold in the Kumite Individual Female Juniors under 66kg division at the prestigious Australian Open Championships earning the title of Australia’s No.1 in her weight class.
In a sport where split-second reactions and tactical precision define the best, Jessie-Rose proved she’s got the edge. Her performance not only landed her on the top step of the podium but also secured her selection to the Australian team for the upcoming 2025 Oceania Championship and Cup – Karate Australia, to be held this June.
This is a major milestone on the international stage, and a clear signal: Jessie-Rose is a force to be reckoned with. More updates to come as she begins her build-up toward Oceania.

Primary Interhouse Cross Country Carnival Showcases Grit, Triumph, and House Pride at Shaw Park.
The crisp morning air at Shaw Park set the perfect stage for the annual Primary Interhouse Cross Country Carnival, where students from Year 2 to 6 laced up and lined up, ready to chase house glory over mud-slicked straights and grassy hills.
The event kicked off with the 12-year-old runners leading the charge, many for the final time in Primary competition. Their determination was clear as they powered through a course designed to test both lungs and legs, blending flat stretches with mini climbs and a few slushy sections to spice things up. It was a farewell lap to remember, with grit and grins in equal measure.
The youngest athletes, our bold Year 2 students, stole hearts with their debut performances. Undaunted by distance or terrain, they tackled the course with wide eyes, laying the groundwork for years of racing ahead.
House pride was front and centre, with six proud houses battling it out for points and podiums. The coveted Cross-Country Trophy, up for grabs on the day, will be formally presented at the Semester 1 Sports Awards, though the real win was the spirit that echoed through every cheer and finish line celebration.
A massive thank you goes to our tireless staff, including Mr Tim O’Rourke, Miss Amy Lewin, and Ms Clare Cattanach and supportive spectators whose presence turned the event into a carnival of encouragement and school spirit. Whether on the sidelines or at checkpoints, your energy helped carry every runner to the finish.
Until next year, keep running, keep smiling, and keep the house spirit alive!
