Loving learning every day with Miss W and Miss Mawby!
You may have noticed a new face in 3/4B, and no, I haven’t been replaced (yet)! Miss J has joined us for her final teaching placement and has settled in well. She has taken full control of the class, and is getting the full experience of life in the classroom, lesson planning, teaching, coffee consumption, and the occasional first aid repair.
Miss J will be with us until the end of Week 5, and we are thrilled to have her! Below is her own update on all things 3/4B.
LITERACY
In Literacy, 3/4B have been focusing on reading fluently using our classroom text Nim’s Island. Miss W and I are already so impressed with the progress we’ve seen in students’ reading and comprehension skills. Last week, students planned, wrote and published a persuasive piece in response to the prompt: “You have crash-landed on a deserted island what are three essential items you should take?” it’s been fantastic to see the creative thinking and thoughtful reasoning behind students items they have chosen to help them survive.
NUMERACY
In maths, we’ve been working on adding and subtracting 3-digit and 4-digit numbers. Students have been showing great perseverance as they tackle these challenging tasks. To support everyone’s individual learning needs, Miss W and I have been using hands on materials and working with small groups. It’s been great to see steady progress students are making.
This week, we also introduced maths fluency groups across both 3/4 classes. These groups are designed to provide targeted support and challenges based on each student’s level. Some students will be joining the neighbouring class during these sessions and we’re really looking forward to seeing how this approach helps everyone grow.
