What's Happening

in Grade 2?

What an exciting and action-packed term it has been for Grade 2 students! We’ve had so many wonderful opportunities to learn, grow, and have fun, and we are grateful to have had the support of our amazing pre-service teachers – Miss Danni, Miss Gabbie, and Miss Chloe. Thank you for all your help!

Here are some of the highlights from Term 2:

Excursion to ScienceworksThe Grade 2s are looking forward to their exciting excursion to Scienceworks tomorrow! It’s sure to be a day full of learning and fun. Be sure to check Xuno for all the photos!

Classroom Systems & Positive BehaviourThis term, we’ve been focusing on our School Wide Positive Behaviours and creating a supportive and respectful classroom environment. Each Monday, the Grade 2 students gathered to discuss the behaviours that are important in our learning spaces. Together, we created our Grade 2 Classroom Matrix, which we proudly display between the two classes. Students have been receiving their Buzz Classroom Awards and enjoying rewards for their positive behaviours. It’s been fantastic to see so many students demonstrating respect, resilience, teamwork, and a love of learning!

English – Explanation Texts - In English, we’ve been learning about Explanation Texts, focusing on how to structure and write them. Students have been using interesting examples, like the life cycles of frogs and butterflies, and even “How a pencil sharpener works,” to practise writing their own explanations. They’ve learned about time connectives, linking sentences, and how to describe things in detail—skills that will help them in many other areas of learning!

Mathematics – Place Value, Addition, and Subtraction - In Mathematics, we spent the first part of the term exploring Place Value, looking at two and three-digit numbers. Students have been working hard using concrete materials to help them understand how numbers are made up. In the second half of the term, we focused on Addition and Subtraction strategies, like “make to ten” and “partitioning,” to help students solve problems and strengthen their number skills.

We also learned about 2D shapes and measured objects using informal units like hand spans and feet. It’s been so much fun seeing students measure and compare items in creative ways!

Inquiry – Chemical and Physical Science -  In our Inquiry lessons, we’ve been exploring Chemical and Physical Science. We started with a ‘volcanic explosion’ demonstration, which sparked lots of excitement and curiosity. Students worked together to understand key scientific skills, like remembering, applying, and creating, as they explored the topic. It’s been amazing to see students embrace their inner scientists!

Special Events - This term has been full of exciting events. The Athletics Day was a highlight, with students showing great teamwork and resilience. Red house took the win for 2025, and many students went home with ribbons! We also celebrated Mother’s Day with a special parade and fun classroom activities for students to share with their mothers and carers. The Education Week Expo was another fantastic event, where families enjoyed cultural activities in each classroom.

Thank you for your continued support this term. We can’t wait for another fantastic term ahead as we continue our learning journey together!
