Altona North Campus News

We have had a busy beginning of Term 2 at our Altona North Campus.  Including the following:

Think You Know

As part of our ongoing commitment to the safety and wellbeing of our students, the Wellbeing Team recently organised an important presentation by Victoria Police titled "Think U Know" for our Grade 5 and 6 students. This presentation took place on Tuesday, 22nd April, it focused on critical topics related to online safety.

The session covered essential areas such as:

  • How to stay safe while using online platforms
  • Respecting others in digital spaces
  • Viewing and sharing appropriate content
  • Sending messages and selfies responsibly
  • Understanding the dangers of online grooming and sextortion
  • The support and resources available to students in times of need

The presentation was highly enlightening, equipping students with the knowledge to make safe and responsible decisions when using social media. We believe these important lessons will help our students navigate the online world in a more informed and secure way.

Thank you to Ms Diego for organising the event.

ANZAC Day Commemoration at Altona North Campus

At Altona North Campus, we hold a deep connection to our national history. One of the most symbolic features of our school grounds is the ‘Lone Pine’ tree—a sapling gifted to us by the RSL many years ago. These special trees were grown from seeds collected from the original Lone Pine at Gallipoli, and we are honoured to be among the few schools entrusted with one.

This year, Ms Pearson and her 8C English class collaborated to create a thoughtful and solemn running sheet, reflecting the traditional structure of ANZAC Day services.

Here are some powerful moments from the ceremony:

“Today, we stand under a descendant of the Lone Pine. The Battle of Lone Pine was fought between the 6th and 9th of August 1915, on a fortified plateau of the Gallipoli Peninsula, where a solitary pine tree stood. It was meant to distract from a British landing at Suvla Bay. That battle claimed the lives of over 2,000 Australian soldiers and many more Turkish soldiers.

The ceremony continued with a moment of reflection:

ANZAC Reflections

“Not only do we honour the memory of those Australians who have fallen in battle; we share the sorrow of those who have mourned them and of all who have been the victims of armed conflict. On this day, we remember with sympathy those Australians who have suffered as prisoners of war, and those who, because of war, have had their lives shortened or handicapped.”

The service concluded with the Ode of Remembrance:

“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old.

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning

We will remember them.”

We will remember them.

Morrisby Year 9

Planning for the future can feel overwhelming when you’re in Year 9—but it’s never too early to start. Thanks to the initiative of Ms Gogos, our Year 9 Coordinator, students have taken their first important step by participating in the Morrisby Profiling program.

Over the course of more than three hours, students completed a detailed series of activities and assessments designed to uncover their strengths, interests, and potential career pathways. This data will form the foundation of future planning conversations.

In mid-May, each student will take part in a one-on-one interview with a Morrisby representative to explore their results and begin considering future study and career options. This marks the beginning of their formal pathway planning process—a vital stage in their secondary school journey.

We are proud of how seriously our Year 9s approached this task and look forward to seeing where their journeys take them.

Mother’s Day Stall

Just a reminder we have our Mother's Day Stall on Thursday May 8th.  A variety of gifts will be available for purchase, ranging from $1 to $10. We would like to extend our thanks to the Parents and Friends group for organizing this special event.

We look forward to sharing additional examples of how our students are actively participating in their learning.
