Year 11 Presentation Ball

‘Grease’ was the word on Friday 28th March 2025. It was displayed and enjoyed at the 2025 Year 11 Presentation Ball. For most of Term 1, 91 students participated in training and group practices to refine and present a collection of great dances for their families, friends, and staff from Catholic College Sale.

The students danced together and in small groups to many much-loved songs from Grease, showing a cohesion that built over the course of the term. Expertly trained by Libby Collins from Bop2it Dance Studio, the students developed their understanding of their own abilities and of each other within the year level. This was another example of how students involved made the most of this opportunity. There was one element where they needed to learn dances to present, but it was more than this—learning about others in their year level and the skills each brought to the event. There was so much laughter, and in this, a sense of camaraderie evolved among them all.

Leanne Chester created a fun rock ‘n’ roll atmosphere with the backdrop and props, which helped create an enjoyable evening for everyone who was able to attend.

Under the direction of our Masters of Ceremony, Stella Whitford and Oscar Millar, students were presented to members of leadership in their chosen groups. Once they were all presented, they danced their modern dance to Stars Will Align for their audience.

Both girls and boys presented their own dances, which were expertly directed by Kadeesha Smith and Cheyenne Gray, who were instrumental in instructing our girls’ and boys’ dances, respectively. Over the course of each week, they spent lunchtimes training students in their own choreographed routines.

A feeling of inclusivity was created that still exists. “We recognised the sense of community that we still hold in our year level.” This was displayed through building relationships while dancing with peers we would not normally chat with. It made us step up and ‘do our bit’ in the whole evening. This was realised especially when they presented their show dance to You’re the One That I Want, Grease, Summer Nights, Greased Lightning, Hand Jive, and We Go Together.

The night was catered by Vintage Graze – Kayla Hardisty. They were professional and efficient. Their attention to detail was obvious, from the food choices right down to the colourful serviettes that resonated with the evening.

We’d like to thank Stella Whitford and Oscar Millar for being enthusiastic as our Masters of Ceremony. A huge thank you to Libby Collins for her patience and direction throughout the dance training. Thank you to Leanne Chester for setting up the Bishop Phelan Stadium with lovely sparkles and lights to create the ‘Grease’ feel, and to all staff for streamlining many elements behind the scenes so the evening ran smoothly.
