KITCHEN AND GARDEN PROGRAM FOR 2025!
Year 6 Garden
Our year 6 students have been working in their plots and making sure their plants are growing beautifully. With our broccoli and cabbages in, we are dealing with cabbage moth catepillers eating the leaves so they are busy pulling the green pests off and feeding them to the chickens. Plant identification is getting better with their knowledge of what is and isnt a weed developing. They are needing to take extra care when weeding in and around their carrot seedings. This week they assessed their plots and put in theor orders for the next lot of succession planting so that when they get back from camp, they can replant any harvested crops or plants that may have failed due to pests or environmental impact.
Year 4
Year 4 have kicked off our fresh food fair preparation with some propagation. Today we planted succulents and a huge variety of natives and perennials. They learnt about how you can make new plants from plant parts suck as cuttings and began to gain an understanding of how and why the plant can grow roots along the stem where they removed all leaves. Thanks to everyone who dropped in some cuttings for them to play with.
Kitchen
Our kitchen crew have been cooking up some amazing dishes. Pizza, pasta and foccacia were the theme last week and this week we are serving up carrot, cumin and herb fritters, broad bean falafels, silverbeet and leek pizza, hummus, simple green salad and the to die for apple cinnamon tea cake. Barely a crumb was left on their plates and it was so good to hear some students say they had never had falafels before let along broad beans ones and then say it was their favourite dish!
All of the recipes are below for your home cooking inspiration. Get the kids to cook their favourite dish for your family on the weekend and send up some pics.
