Pancakes on the menu for Shrove Tuesday
Shrove Tuesday marks the final day before Lent — a time in the Christian calendar traditionally set aside for sharing food and celebrating together before six weeks of fasting and reflection.
Yesterday, Senior School students enjoyed a pancake stall fundraiser on the College Green during recess, with $2 from every pancake sold supporting Caritas Australia’s Project Compassion. It was a wonderful way for students to come together as a community before the Lenten season begins.
Thank you to everyone for supporting this cause. There will be more opportunities to donate throughout the season of Lent. A special thank you to our Identity and Mission and Inservio teams for their generosity in preparing and hosting the pancake stalls.
Ash Wednesday | Marking the beginning of Lent
Today, our Junior and Senior School communities came together to observe Ash Wednesday.
Ash Wednesday is a solemn day in the Christian calendar that invites us to pause, reflect and begin the season of Lent with a spirit of humility and hope.
Students and staff gathered across the College for liturgies in which we received the ashes – a quiet yet powerful reminder of the journey of faith we undertake together.
Staff News | Flower power shines at St David's
Congratulations are in order for Mrs Marion Mundana (Secondary Teacher) and Mrs Ruth Prichard (Year 2 Wombats Class Teacher) who took home third place in the Floral Festival competition held at St David’s Anglican Cathedral in Hobart.
This vibrant community event celebrates creativity and craftsmanship, attracting entries from schools, local groups and floral enthusiasts from across southern Tasmania.
This year's festival theme, 'Tree of Life', inspired a beautiful arrangement proudly representing St Mary's College. Drawing on foliage and flowers from our own school community, Mrs Mundana and Mrs Prichard incorporated Japanese maple from our grounds and surrounding streets, along with grapes, lilies and jasmine (a nod to its biblical symbolism).
Their submission was well received, with organisers and visitors praising its creativity and enthusiasm. A truly ‘tree‑mendous’ effort — well done to you both!
