Our Week in Sports

This year in Physical Education, all students from Kindergarten to Year 6 are being taught by Mr Coon, Mr So, and Mr Russell, in collaboration with the classroom teachers. During the first half of the term, the focus has been on Newcombe Ball and Volleyball, with continued emphasis on developing Fundamental Movement Skills.

This week, students practiced throwing and catching using a tennis ball. Older students challenged themselves by throwing the ball both higher and progressively further distances to a partner. They also practiced overarm throws, focusing on proper technique—starting with feet together, aiming carefully, and engaging their “muscle arm”. Skill development with paddle bats continued, with students progressing through increasingly challenging levels; older students practiced volleying with a partner. Volleyball exercises included younger students catching the ball with two hands, while older students worked on more advanced skills such as setting and digging. Each lesson concluded with games of Newcombe Ball or Volleyball, where students applied tactical strategies like spreading out across the court and targeting open spaces to score points.

Students have been reminded to arrive promptly at the steps of the half basketball court at the start of each lesson, equipped with their hat and a full water bottle to ensure they remain hydrated.
