Year 9/10 Car Wash & Bake Sale

Thank you to everyone who supported our Year 9/10 Car Wash on Wednesday, raising money for our trip to Sydney for the Science and Engineering Challenge National Finals. The weather was beautiful and we had lots of happy faces.

The Year 9's also held a Bake Sale this week, raising $1400 for our trip so far. We had such a great turnout.

Year 10 Youth Alpha Retreat

We have been working through the Youth Alpha course this semester in Year 10 Christian Studies. This course explores key aspects of Christian faith in a video and discussion format. Part of the course encourages participants to go away for a retreat as an opportunity to explore some of the deeper issues in a context outside where things are usually run.

We had the opportunity to start Term 4 with a night in Portland. Our stay at Portland Bay Holiday Park was both convenient, walking distance into town and very comfortable, staying in fully equipped cabins. Our days were spent delving into topics around Prayer and the Holy Spirit.

A huge thank you to SouthWest Community Church for hosting us. This was a perfect venue with the exact mix we needed - spaces to view material, discuss and have personal time as well as activities for free time. Thanks Year 10 for a great couple of days away.

Unit 1/2 Psychology Melbourne Trip

Unit 1/2 Psychology recently went to Melbourne to participate in some experiences, exhibitions and work with presenters that focused specifically on our recent study. A whirlwind trip began with Gustatory perception that was tested through a 'Barista's Breakfast' at Higher Ground, with specific coffee notes. Consolidating Gestalt principles and monocular depth cues were practiced with a tour of the NGV. Visual illusions and perception was tested within the many artworks at ART VO. An interlude on alternative therapies was experienced and thoroughly enjoyed with Axe Throwing (yes, it is a thing!). And lastly a final bout of unique Mexican inspired dishes at Bodega Underground to dovetail back to gustatory perception.

Food Tech

The school Chickens have begun laying eggs! This week in Food Tech, Year 7 used the eggs to bake some chocolate chip cookies.

Year 9 & 10 tried their hand at a fairly elaborate Chicken Parmagiana recipe. All students did an exceptional job and the boys enjoyed a spot of turmeric, ginseng, ginger and black pepper herbal tea.
