Water Awareness

Last week St Joseph’s participated in Water Awareness sessions with qualified AustSwim Instructors. The weather held up for us and we were able to hold all sessions over the four days. The improvement we witnessed in the student’s confidence and swimming ability by the last session was amazing. We commend the students for showing trust in the instructors and listening to them so that they could improve their overall water awareness.

We would like to thank our amazing instructors; Bec Willis, Karen Fletcher, Simone Kerr, Veronica McNamara, Sue Anderson and Pam Weste. You put in some cold days at the pool and never complained! Our students have benefited so much from your knowledge and expertise. Thank you!

To the parents who helped with some of the sessions, we appreciate you taking the time to assist us. I’ve mentioned it before, but we really do have an amazing parent community at this school who always step up to help at our events. Thank you!

I would also like to thank Mr McManus for using school funds to cover the cost of these lessons for our families.  Learning to swim at a young age and having the ability to save yourself in the water, is really important and the fact our families were able to receive 4 lessons at no cost is so valuable. As a parent of students at the school, I am extremely grateful for this service.

Looking forward, I encourage families to continue to spend time in the water so that the students can put all their new skills into practice. As we know, the more we do something, the better we get at it. It will also be great preparation for our Swimming Carnival which will be in Week 2 next year.
