Whole-school Arts Centre Excursions

With the end of term upon us and good weather signalling that spring is here, it was the perfect time this week to get out of the school and engage with some of Melbourne's wonderful culture!

You will remember earlier in the year we shared that a SKiPPS family had made an incredibly generous donation to allow us to run a whole-school excursion to the Arts Centre.

This week, all of our classes got to take part in this wonderful opportunity to see professional theatrical performances and they have had an amazing time.

  • On Tuesday, our Year 1/2 classes all travelled by bus to the Arts Centre to see a theatrical performance. They enjoyed watching Carnival of the Animals by Circa Created by Yaron Lifschitz and the Circa Ensemble.

Carnival of the Animals whisks you away on a thrilling circus escapade inspired by Camille Saint-Saëns' delightful salute to feathers, fur and fins.Carnival of the Animals captivates with whimsical tales of creatures of the land and sea, bringing this classical music suite to life for a whole new generation of circus, music and animal lovers. Circa’s world-famous acrobats tumble, fly, leap and spin their way through the many wondrous worlds of the animal kingdom!

  • On Wednesday, our Foundation children travelled to see 'Waru – Journey of the Small Turtle'

Under the star-illuminated skies of the Torres Strait, a green turtle navigates her way back to the beach where she was born.

The season has started, the turtles are returning to nest, and soon the island will welcome a new generation of hatchlings – amongst them, our small turtle friend, Migi!

In Bangarra’s first dedicated work for children, join our heroine Migi as she undertakes a journey of discovery and survival. A contemporary saltwater Lagaw Kazil (Island Children) story inspired by the totemic system of the green turtle, Waru – journey of the small turtle is an interactive and immersive introduction to Torres Strait Islander culture.

  • Today (Thursday), our Year 3/4 went to see 'Carnival of the Animals' and also participated in a guided tour of the Art Centre.
  • Today our Year 5/6 classes also got to see a performance of Carnival of the Animals by Circa . The Year 5/6 students visited the Australian Music Vault and participated in a guided tour of its exhibits.  https://www.australianmusicvault.com.au/

We would like to thank the family who made this wonderful and much-appreciated donation for allowing us to end the term in such a special way.

Thanks also to Chantel Jose and Jac Morphy for arranging the logistics of these great visits.
