VCE Vocational Major Community Projects

Raising Awareness

On Tuesday 10th October the Year 11 and 12 VCE Vocational Major students coordinated a day full of fundraising activities as part of their community projects. The Year 12 students planned and organised the day and centred their attention on raising awareness about the following topics:

Raising awareness about student mental health and wellbeing

Students Connor and Jesse looked at raising awareness for students about their peer’s health and wellbeing. They organised for a “Illawarra flame tree” to be planted on the oval near the stadium and ran a planting ceremony. This tree will be a beacon for students to look after each other for years to come.

Raising awareness about students who need support and assistance

To make sure that all students are supported and have the resources they need. Zac organised to bake and sell chocolate chip cookies. The Year 11 VM students, Zac, Rose, Ms Kendall, Ms Growse, Mr Lawrence, Ms Seruni and Ms Walshe spent Monday in the kitchens baking cookies and packaging them ready to be sold on Tuesday. The cookies were a sell out!!

Raising awareness about racial and cultural discrimination, LGBTQI+.

Students Christina, Brynna, Rose, Evie and Lilly designed picture books and taught year 7 classes about a variety of topics which promoted respectful relationships, tolerance, belonging and community.

Raising awareness about environmental and sustainability issues around the College and Local Community.

Students displayed posters and PowerPoints about cleaning up and maintaining our college by looking after the environment and putting rubbish in the bin.

Staff vs. Students Dodgeball

The day also included an “out of dress” day, for a small donation students were able to participate, as well as, the annual Staff vs. Students Dodgeball game.  This year the students vs staff dodgeball game looked a bit different. The Year 12 students played on the staff side and Mr Pitts joined the students. We also had a visit from two dinosaurs who showed excellent dodging skills. Mr Pitts managed to get Mr Lawrence out with a bullseye shot and the students ended up winning with only a couple minutes to spare before the bell. Thank you to all that participated in the game, it was nice to see some friendly rivalries.

Overall the day was very successful. All money raised has been donated to students that need uniform, computers, camp money, etc. Thank you for giving back to our community to help everyone access the best education they can. Please see the images for more details about the students projects.
