Dandenong Creek Excursions

Year 10 Photography Trip to Dandenong Creek

Our Year 10 photography class recently enjoyed a sunny outing to Dandenong Creek. The goal was simple: capture the beauty of nature, plants, and wildlife using macro photography.

On a perfect weather day, students honed their photography skills by focusing on the tiny details in the natural world. They got up close and personal with the local flora, revealing the intricacies of petals, leaves, and more in vivid detail. Macro photography allowed our young photographers to reveal a hidden world. They captured spider webs, caterpillars, patterns found in tree trunks and shedding light on the tiny wonders that often go unnoticed. Our time along the creek emphasized patience and mindfulness, showing that true beauty can be found in the smallest places.

Students will now identify and edit their best shots in preparation for the Arts and Tech Night later this term. They look forward to exhibiting their work for the rest of the community to see the amazing macro photography work that will come out of this remarkable day in nature.

Year 10 Science Investigations trip to Dandenong Creek

As part of the River Detectives program, our Year 10 Science Investigation classes have been visiting Dandenong Creek.  The students have learnt about how important the health of our local waterways are for the overall good of our natural community and health of our flora and fauna.  Therefore, students have learnt different measure to test water quality including:

  • Temperature
  • pH levels
  • Turbidity
  • Electrical Conductivity
  • Air Temperature
  • Water Flow
  • Water Appearance

Students visited the creek on at least two occasions to compare the water quality. For Mr Hunt's class, we experienced extremes in weather! Week 1 was cold and wet and week 2 was hot and sunny! However, on both occasions, the students enjoyed themselves and gathered meaningful data. A big thank you to Justine Olsen for all her help!
