Welcome to IPS
There is so much happening this week at IPS! Students in Foundation to Year 2 are gearing up for their House Athletics day on Thursday, the year 5 students are holding their annual History Expo on the same day and on Friday, the year 3 students will be hosting their annual Community Expo.
Expos
Year 5 History Expo
The year 5 students will open their History Expo on Thursday to all the IPS classes and parents are also invited to visit the classrooms from 9:00am - 11:15am.
The expo is a celebration of the work students have done in their History unit learning about colonial Australia and events such as the Gold Rush. This is then followed by their camp to Sovereign Hill next week to consolidate their learning and have a lived experience of what life was like during the Gold Rush.
Year 3 Community Expo
The year 3 students will open their Community Project Expo on Friday this week. Families are invited into the year 3 classrooms during the morning to have a chance to see what students have learned and to ask questions and interact with students about their knowledge specifically on the local community.
F-2 grades and siblings in late morning will also have the chance to visit and this is a great transition opportunity for the year 2 students.
Foundation - Year 2 House Athletics
Excitement is building for the F-2 House Athletics day this Thursday!
Photos from last year's Athletics Carnival
Students from Foundation to Year 2 will spend the day competing for points in events such as sack racing and relays.
It is always a fun day for all involved and parents are welcome to come along to cheer students on.
Year 6 Canberra Camp
Last week our Year 6s attended an educational tour of the national capital. Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia's history, culture, heritage and democracy.
The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursions the Australian Government contributed funding to our school in the amount of $45.00 received per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the camps / excursion program.
The $45.00 per attendee was applied to the cost of camp prior to invoicing families for Canberra Camp.
Some of the highlights included guided tours of Parliament House (old and new), the Australian War Memorial and the Australian Institute of Sport. We also visited the Royal Australian Mint, Questacon, the Canberra Education Centre, the Australian Film and Television Archive and iPlay.
The students had a wonderful experience of role-playing debating a Bill in the Senate at Parliament house. As you can see (and hear) enthusiasm and engagement was high.
A highlight was meeting our federal member Kate Thwaites who was very generous with her time and answered all the questions our students had.
A highlight for all of us was being able to visit with the minister and his staff at the Royal Thai Embassy. We learned numbers and greetings as well as a special dance. The embassy officials and staff were absolutely lovely and we all appreciated the Thai food and the certificates they had for each of us. Being able to go into an embassy is very rare and we are lucky to have this relationship. This is the forth year we have had the honour of visiting the Royal Thai Embassy. We have extended an invitation to the ambassador, the minister and the staff to grace us with their presence should they come to Melbourne.
School Breakfast Clubs Program
Our school is now proud to be part of the School Breakfast Clubs Program, delivered by Foodbank Victoria in partnership with the Victorian Government. This program runs in over 1,000 Victorian state schools and helps ensure every student can start the day ready to learn, with a full stomach and a clear mind!
Classroom Food Bowls
- Each classroom will have a bowl with fresh fruit/veg
- These are available to all students throughout the day, and can be topped up.
- Our Environment Reps will help manage this (they’ll even get a badge after training!).
Lunch Support
- Healthy, ready-to-eat meals will be available for students who come to school without lunch.
- This is a targeted support for students who need it most.
Home Food Packs
- Free food packs are available for families who could use a little extra support at home.
- If you know a family who might benefit, please let us know.
Our Biennial School Fair – Building Community and Supporting Our School - Thanking Our Supporters.
The Ivanhoe Primary School Fair is just around the corner! Our Biennial Fair is always a highlight on the school calendar—a wonderful way for families, friends, and neighbours to come together, enjoy a fun day out, and celebrate the vibrant spirit of our school community.
As well as being a fantastic community event, the Fair plays an important role in raising much-needed funds that directly support our students and school programs. Every stall, activity, and helping hand makes a real difference.
We encourage all parents, carers, and friends to get involved—whether by volunteering time, donating goods, or simply spreading the word. Together, we can make this year’s Fair another great success.
Remember, Our Fair can’t happen without the support of our amazing community.
