Breaksea House News

Last week, we had the honour of celebrating and farewelling our graduating boarders of 2025 – Kate Carlson, Mariella Somerscales, Sophie Harris, Emmeline Cunningham, Amy Medway, Rif McNeil-Hanna and Chloe Climie at the Boarding Valedictory Dinner in Michaelmas. It was one of those nights that reminds us why boarding is so special - a mix of reflection, laughter, pride and that bittersweet feeling that comes when we realise just how much these students have grown up.

Each of these young people has left their own unique mark on Breaksea. From early mornings rushing out to trainings and music rehearsals, to late-night chats in the common room, to the way they’ve looked out for the younger students, they’ve shaped our community with their kindness and resilience. Watching them evolve from shy new boarders into confident, capable young adults has been such a privilege.

A huge thank you to Chefs Nick, James, and Jeremy for the delicious meal that made the evening feel so special. We are also deeply grateful to Mrs McAllister and the Year Eleven Hospitality students for their professional service, and to Ms Di Thomas and her Year Tens for the stunning decorations that transformed Michaelmas into something truly memorable. Mrs Julia Bairstow also deserves a big thank you for running the bar with her usual warmth and good humour, it was a wonderful addition to the evening. And a special mention must go to Mr Brodie Sarre, who quietly pulled all the moving parts together so seamlessly behind the scenes, thank you.

Of course, an extra-special thank you must go to Mrs Di Franzinelli, who organised the entire event with her trademark care, calm and precision. It’s hard to imagine Boarding life without her steady presence and her eye for detail. She’s been the heartbeat behind so many of our events and has ensured that every boarder is cared for, catered for, and safely transported, often without fanfare, but always with warmth and reliability. As she moves on from GSG, we say farewell with full hearts and immense gratitude.

This term we are thrilled to welcome Lowenna Brogan, who joins our Breaksea team on Tuesdays and Saturdays, as our lovely medical students Sarah Hearle, Kate Hawker and Georgie Belvin time in Breaksea comes to an end. We thank them for their care and support for the students during their time here.

It’s hard to believe there are only six weeks left in the term. As we look ahead, there is so much to be thankful for and so much still to look forward to. As the term winds down, it’s important to keep rooms tidy, stay on top of washing, and make sure you’re punctual. Everyone should be out the door by 8.30am to ensure they arrive at school on time. Let’s keep showing up for each other and finish the year strong - we’ve got this!
