Last Friday night, Heathmont East Primary School was honoured to receive the Victorian Education Excellence Award for Outstanding Provision for High-Ability Students. This award recognises our strong commitment to challenging and extending high-ability learners through engaging and purposeful learning experiences.

Over the last few years we have significantly built our capacity as a school. We have worked with Mensa, the Victorian Gifted Association and several Universities. We identify and support high-ability students through tailored learning plans, differentiated classroom teaching, and specialised programs such as Gifted Insights, Maths Olympiad, and masterclasses in Maths and English.

We are also thrilled to receive funding to continue building our expertise and develop innovative programs that inspire every student to reach their full potential.

A huge thank you to our dedicated staff, students, and families for their ongoing passion and commitment to excellence in learning!

Planning for 2026

As per the last newsletter, Term 4 marks the beginning of our preparations for 2026. One of our major considerations is the creation of classes that best support the learning of our students. At this time, we ask that you let us know if your child (other than Year 6 students) will be leaving HEPS to attend another school in 2026.

We also invite you to email Anita (not class teachers) through the school’s email address if you feel there is any specific information about your child’s learning or social needs that the school may not be aware of. Please note that this information should not include requests for a particular teacher or student. All information should be provided in writing (letter or email) to the Principal by November 1st. This information will be considered, along with other relevant data, during the class placement process.

Intentions to Leave

Thank you to the families who have already advised us of their plans for 2026 — this information is extremely helpful for our planning. If any families are intending to leave our school community and will not be returning in 2026 due to relocation or other reasons, we ask that you please let us know as soon as possible. You can contact us by phoning the school office or by emailing heathmont.east.ps@education.vic.gov.au

Our Foundation to Level 5 students have participated in a five-day swimming program this week and have thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The program has helped students build confidence in the water while developing important swimming and water safety skills. It’s been wonderful to see their enthusiasm, persistence and improvement each day.

Tomorrow is World Teacher’s Day. World Teachers' Day is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the incredible work teachers do every day, especially at HEPS. By celebrating this day and showing our appreciation, we can help create a supportive and encouraging environment that allows teachers to thrive and continue making a positive impact on our children's lives.
