Principal`s Message

Principal's Newsletter Report

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we approach the end of the term, thoughts start going towards next year. I always try to make sure that we don’t look too far ahead, knowing that there is still lots of learning and exciting things happening this year. Year 6 have Graduation to look forward to. Along with end of year excursions, and celebrations, term 4 is always a memorable time of the year. It is always interesting to witness how students start to flourish in Term 4 and this has been evident in my classroom visits over the past couple of weeks.

From a school management perspective, work has started on the important task of preparing 2025 class lists. Teachers are devoting meeting times to carry out this task, taking lots of considerations on board. We are also finalising our budget and workforce for 2025 with the intention to communicate grade structures and teacher placements in the final newsletter

Staffing Changes for 2025:

As we look forward to the new year, we are excited about the new beginnings with our incoming staff members.  We are thrilled to welcome:

  • Appointments:
    • Nicholas E. will be joining us as the Acting Assistant Principal for Semester 1, 2025. Nick has over 8 years’ experience as an Assistant Principal and will be a big asset in the absence of Andrea whilst she is on leave.
    • Guillaume D. will be joining our French team, coming across from Merri Creek Primary School.
    • We are excited to welcome back Courtney, Lorna, and Nurta.

At the same time, we bid a fond farewell to some of our beloved staff who will be moving on from Fitzroy Primary School for 2024.

  • Departures:
    • We bid farewell to Hannah, Emily Ari , Lucy, Rebecca, George and Elvira. We thank them for their contributions and wish them all the best in their future endeavours. I would also like to thank Erika and Kylie who have been consistent Casual teachers with us throughout the year.
    • Leave for 2025:
    • Vicki, Andrea and Briannah will be on significant leave next year. We wish them well in their next adventures.
    • Retirements: It is with mixed emotions that we announce the retirement of Linda after many years of dedicated service to Fitzroy Primary School. Linda has been an integral part of our community, and her commitment to our students and staff has been truly remarkable. We wish her all the best in her retirement and thank her for her outstanding service.

Child Safety

Child safety and wellbeing at Fitzroy Primary School information for families and the school community:

Fitzroy Primary School is committed to providing an environment where students are safe and feel safe.

Our child safety framework includes policies, codes and procedures that explain how we support and maintain the safety and wellbeing of our students and protect them from harm. These documents are available on our website.

We are also committed to continuous improvement of our child safety framework. We are currently reviewing our child safety policies and practices to ensure they are up-to-date and effective.

Our students and families are important partners in this process. We welcome your feedback or ideas on ways we can improve our approach to child safety and wellbeing.

If you have any suggestions or comments, please contact the principal on 03 9417 4222 or at fitzroy.ps@education.vic.gov.au

SunSmart Policy

With the warmer weather in Terms 1 and 4, it is essential that all students wear hats while outdoors. We appreciate your support in sending your children to school with appropriate hats to ensure they are SunSmart.

Uniform Reminder

A gentle reminder to ensure that students come to school in the correct uniform. This helps promote a sense of belonging and pride in our school community.

Extended Holidays

If your family is planning to take extended holidays, please inform the school and record this on Compass. This helps us manage attendance and ensure all students are accounted for. Regular attendance is crucial for your child's learning and development. Please ensure your child attends school every day unless they are unwell.

Grade 1/2 Excursion and River Cruise

Our recent Grade 1/2 excursion and river cruise was a huge success! The students had an exciting day filled with learning and fun. A big thank you to the volunteers and staff who organised and supported this wonderful event.

$400 Bonus for School Costs in 2025

In 2025, every family with children attending government schools will receive a $400 bonus per child. The money will be given to the school, but families need to decide what they would like it used for.

This money can be used for:

  • School uniforms
  • School activities (like swimming, excursions, and camps)

You will receive an email for each child by the end of next week.

If you need help using the platform or you do not receive the email, please visit the school office. Our staff will be ready to assist you.
