Lost Property – How You Can Help!
Over the time I’ve been at the school, I’ve witnessed firsthand how much valuable time teachers, support staff, and parent volunteers spend sorting through lost clothes – time that could be better spent on other important tasks.
Imagine a scenario in the yard: A teacher picks up a jumper without a name, then notices a child has fallen over and rushes to help. The jumper is left behind because there’s no immediate way to identify who it belongs to. Now, if the jumper were labelled, the teacher could attend to the child, spot the other student who owns the jumper, and quickly return it – no hassle, no delay. Problem solved!
Labelling clothes isn’t just about saving time at school; it also helps reduce waste. Did you know that only 15% of clothing donated to op shops in Australia is sold? The remaining 85% is shipped overseas, often ending up in unknown destinations. We don't want your kids' clothes to contribute to this cycle.
The simplest solution is to label all your children's clothes—uniforms and non-uniform items. While we know it’s a bit of a pain, the time you spend labelling will save hours of work for everyone. Teachers can’t track every item, and although they’ll help when they can, they have many other responsibilities.
We have an amazing community, so if you're able to help by labelling clothes, or would like to teach the children how to do it themselves, please get in touch! Together, we can make this process much more efficient and reduce unnecessary waste.
Thank you for your support!
National Recycling Week – Special Recycling Collection!
From November 11 – 22, the FPS Eco Club will run a special community recycling collection at school. We’ll be accepting reusable shopping bags (not paper) and beauty products, so start saving them up!
- Reusable Shopping Bags: Any non-paper bags in good condition.
- Beauty Product Containers: Please read the attached instructions carefully to avoid contamination.
- Drop-off Location: A collection box will be available at the office.
Did you know?
If you have beauty product containers that need recycling, keep in mind that most can't be placed in your council bin because they contain mixed materials. Instead, you can bring them to your local Priceline store for recycling.
Additionally, if you have reusable shopping bags to donate later, you can drop them off at Fairfield Village in one of the Bag Libraries (located outside Shoe Image and in Bakers Delight). Just make sure they are clean and folded.
