Foundation (Prep)

English

In Prep C we have focused on reading and writing information reports. Students have looked at the differences between creative stories and information books. We then followed the text structure to write our own information reports. Students started with a heading about their topic, wrote some interesting facts and then included some photos and pictures to match their topic.

We have also revisited the /th/ and /ch/ sounds and discussed them in more detail. Students brainstormed words that begin with the /th/ sound and we made thongs to record our ideas on.

Students also made chickens and recorded the words they thought of that started with the /ch/ sound.

Maths

In Prep, it is important to have confidence with counting and making accurate 1:1 correspondence to ensure our answers are correct when solving addition and subtraction problems. We have played games and used lots of hands-on materials to practise counting and making matching collections.

We also discussed patterns we can see in numbers and focused on skip counting. Students worked with a partner to order sets of numbers in the correct skip counting sequence.

Special Visitor

We had a special visitor last week! Mr Webber came and joined us after lunch for some mindfulness colouring in our student wellbeing session. At one point, I think we nearly had the entire class around one table. 😁

Swimming

Please note, the Prep-Grade 2 swimming program starts on Monday. A notification has been sent out via Compass with detailed information for you. Most importantly, here is what to bring:

  • A swimming bag which is easy for your child to carry.
  • Bathers should be worn under your child’s school clothes when they arrive at school. If wearing boardshorts, students can wear them with their school shirt in the morning.
  • Please remember to pack dry shorts and underwear to return to school in.
  • A towel
  • Goggles/ swim cap/ earplugs if required (staff and volunteers will assist with these)
  • Water bottle

When we arrive back at school students will eat their lunch at our regular lunch break time, 1:30pm. Please note, students are quite hungry after swimming, could you please pack an extra snack in their lunch box for when we return to school.

We also ask those students with long hair please wear braids or tie their hair up. This makes it easier to put on swim caps and for drying after lessons.

Volunteers

Assisting students before and after swimming lessons is a very busy time. The teachers welcome all parents who are available to assist at the venue. All three grades will be travelling on the one bus, so we ask parents who would like to participate to meet us directly at the pool. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.
