Bimbadeen Year 5/6 All-Star Girls at Regional Finals
Our Year 5/6 All-Star Girls basketball team represented Bimbadeen brilliantly at the regional finals. The girls played with determination, skill, and heart, making it all the way to the qualifying finals. Although they faced a tough match against Mooroolbark East Primary and narrowly missed advancing further, they finished in equal third place in the entire region—a huge achievement!
This result reflects the team’s hard work and spirit, and every player should be extremely proud of their success. Congratulations to our All-Star Girls on an impressive season.
Go Bimbadeen!
Grandparents’ and Special Person’s Afternoon
There was a buzz in the air last week when our students in Foundation hosted their Grandparents and special friends for an afternoon of celebration for Grandparents’ and Special Person’s Afternoon.
It is always such an exciting time when our students share their classroom environment, evidence of learning, and show off their school to their loved ones. We hope many of our Grandparents and special friends consider joining our parent and carer helper program and visit us more often.
Thank you for supporting our students to be the best they can be and encouraging them to reach for the heights.
TheirCare School Holiday Dates
TheirCare will be closed during the Christmas school holiday period. The program will close end of day on Friday December 20th 2024 and will reopen on Monday January 6th 2025 for their holiday program.
For further information, please visit the TheirCare page on our school website or contact the TheirCare team directly.
Planning for Next Year
We are well into planning our school and classes for next year and need to have a clear idea of exactly who will be here. This information is very important for us as we form classes so we can ensure that our classes are balanced in all aspects including friendships. One child moving away can leave another child without a friend in the new class. If you know that your child will be moving away next year, please send us an email to bimbadeen.heights.ps@education.vic.gov.au letting us know where your child will be attending school next year.
Scholarships to Support Students
Scholarships are available for students who complete Grade 4 to Year 11 in 2024, and for students enrolled in Year 12 in 2024 who plan to do tertiary studies in 2025. The Department of Education administers several scholarships available to eligible students who are enrolled in Grade 4 to Year 12 in 2024.
Applicants for these scholarships will be evaluated on their:
- participation in school activities
- community involvement
- academic achievement.
Scholarships are either one-off payments or cover the duration of the student’s course or annual study.
Many of these scholarships have specific eligibility criteria, so please refer to individual applications for more information. Applications are now open, and close on Saturday 1 February 2025.
For information on how to apply, refer to Student scholarships.
2025 Foundation Transition
We are nearing the half-way point of our transition program for our cohort of 2025 Foundation students. There was much excitement as our 2025 Founders attended their first transition session on Friday 22 October. This was the first of 4 Transition sessions that are designed to support our incoming Foundation students to familiarise them with our school community and help them to prepare for a smooth transition into primary school. It was wonderful to hear the excitement and joy in their voices and see their beaming smiles and pride as they visited their new school and enjoyed their first session as a ‘school kid’. We look forward to welcoming our new families to our community at a 2025 Foundation BBQ later in the term and continuing with our onsite sessions for our 2025 Founders in coming weeks.
Information about the program has been sent directly to families of enrolled children about the remaining sessions to be held on:
- Tuesday 12 November – Student Transition Session
- Tuesday 26 November – Student Transition Session
- Tuesday 10 December - Foundation Orientation Session
- Monday 16 December – Welcome to Bimbadeen BBQ.
The following information has been taken from the Department of Education’s parent and carer information about how to support your child's start school. These tips are helpful for all families of children beginning school or moving on to a new year level.
During the summer holidays
- Show your child where the school is and talk about how you will get there.
- Arrange play times with other families whose children will be going to the same school. It helps if your child knows another child at their school at the start of prep.
- Practise the things your child will need to do to get ready for school (e.g. putting things in their bag, remembering to take a hat).
- Confirm your before or after school care arrangements and explain these to your child.
- Be positive about starting school and enjoy your child’s excitement.
- Visit your local library and read books with your child about starting school.
The first day of school
- Make sure your child knows who will take them to school and pick them up on the first day.
- Help your child to organise their clothes, hat, shoes and socks the night before.
- Help your child to pack their school bag with a snack, drink, lunch, and a hat.
- Place a spare pair of underpants and a change of clothes in a plastic bag. Let your child know these clothes are in their bag in case of any accidents at school.
- Put sunscreen on your child in the morning if it's needed.
- Show your child where you will meet them at the end of the school day.
- At the end of the day talk to your child about what happened at school. A great way is to ask them what their highlight of the day was.
Early childhood services and schools will organise programs to help your child settle into school. Talk to your child’s early childhood educator or the school.
Further information about starting school for students beginning Primary School as well as Secondary School can be located at https://www.education.vic.gov.au/parents/going-to-school/Pages/tips-starting-school.aspx
We hope you enjoy a lovely weekend with your family, and we look forward to another fantastic week of learning at Bimbadeen.
