Literacy
What is Solway Reading at the moment?
Library is always a popular session at Solway PS and we are lucky to have a beautiful space, filled to the brim with amazing books. Even luckier, we have Mrs Pearson and her many helpers who cover, catalogue and return our books each week, on top of making fun displays and introducing the students to new books they will be sure to love.
This week we interviewed students from Solway in the big red library chair to see what everyone is reading at the moment.
Harvey G- Weirdo by Anh Do
I like reading Anh Do’s Weirdo books. I like them because the pictures and the words are funny. I haven’t read this one yet but I will.
Ethan S- The Couch Potato by John Jory and Pete Oswald
I read the couch potato. Its about a potato who always watches TV and plays games on his couch. One day he decides to go out and see the world. I think this was an interesting book.
Henry W-Percy Jackson and the Lightening Thief by Rick Riordan
People should read this book because it is engaging to all audiences and stays on topic. This is my first book in the series, I have seen the movie too, but I think the book is better.
Mimi P- The Raven’s Song by Zana Fraillon and Bren Mac Dibble
This was our book club book. The book is about Shelby and Davy who are living 100 years into the future from Phoenix. Although I found it started slow but once you understand what is happening you will want to read on.
Emmanuel T – The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
This is the first book of the series for older students. It is about a girl called Katniss who gets in a mix up and has to fight in the Hunger Games with 24 other people. There are five books in this series and the last one will be realised next year.
Bassie O- Skandar and the Phantom Rider by A. F. Steadman
This book is a fantasy book about Skandar and his sister. Skandar is a unicorn rider but his sister is still trying to become one but their world is facing elemental destruction. This is the second book in the series.
Oscar O- Geronimo Stilton: The Amazing Voyage- The Kingdom of Fantasy by Elisabetta Dami
I like reading these books because they are long and I enjoy long books but I also enjoy funny books. I like how the author makes sure that Geronimo always forgets to introduce himself. It's really funny.
Charlotte K- Friday Barnes by R.A Spratt and Keeper of the Lost Cities by Shannon Messenger
I have two books to recommend. The first is Friday Barnes which is about a girl who is a detective. I began reading this after R. A. Spratt visited our school. The second is a fantasy book my mum reserved for me at the library and it has turned out to be one of my favourite books. I really enjoyed how the author used lots of suspense and cliff-hangers. You are never going to know or even guess what is going to happen next!
Charlotte W- The Return to the Secret lake – Karen Inglis
This is the second book in the series. I haven’t read it yet, but I really enjoyed the first one. The book is about a tunnel at the secret lake that takes people back in time. I like how the author makes the characters do unexpected things which makes me want to keep reading.
Amelia O- Ella Diaries: Gym Squad Tumble and Friends Forever
I like reading these books because they have a really good problem. In every book they are different but have the same main character.
Daniel H- The Real Pigeons – Andrew McDonald
I really like reading the Real Pigeons books because the main characters are really funny.
Sreya S- My Cute Kitten – Tim Bugbird
I want to read this book because I want to know why my cat is very silly.
