) Specialist Feature News: Science

Selamat Siang,

The whole school focus for Science this term is Biology.

Foundation students have been busy exploring the survival needs of plants. We are learning to name different parts of plants and describe their needs. We have made gorgeous Sprout Houses with sunflowers and are so excited to begin our "Grass Buddy" project this week.

Here are some snapshots of us exploring the concept of root systems and stems using a paper-towel experiment and celery and food dye:

And some photos of us exploring our plants and weeds in the schoolgrounds:

In 3/4 we are exploring the impact of change within the ecosystem. We have explored food chains, food webs, fire and seed germination and environmental factors that influence change in the ecosystem.

This week we are looking into the role of honey bees in pollination and food production. We created fact files about bees and completed a fun taste-testing experiment using four types of honey from different regions. We compared flavours and considered the different types of flowers that could affect honey colour and taste.  We also learnt to read product ingredient labels closely and check out where products are made!

3/4 students are looking forward to beginning their Stop-Motion Lifecycle project next week. If you have not yet brought in a shoe-box or downloaded the Stop-Motion app, please do this in the coming weeks.

Terima Kasih,
