Independence Centre

Highlights

Selamat sore 3/4 families,

Following our incursion where different community members shared about how they help our local communities, the Independence Centre began our major project in organising a Community Collection Drive at our upcoming Christmas Concert. Below is some information from one of our groups and in following weeks, you will hear from different groups and what organisation they are supporting. We hope you can assist us by clearing out your old belongings such as toys, books and clothing to support our local community groups.

In Guided Inquiry this term the 3/4s are collecting old things that we don’t need any more like toys and books and donating them to charities. You can bring these into our stall at the Christmas Concert and swap them for things we are making like origami and fun Christmas and greeting cards for people to give to their friends and family. My group is focusing on helping people at Aged Care communities. We have been working hard to create these little gifts and we’re super excited to run our stall!

Some of our students were involved in writing letters to different not-for-profit organisations in the community.

Below is a reply from Food is Free, Nunawading:

"Hi 3/4 students!

What a wonderful surprise email. Absolutely, I'd love to be involved with your school. We take donations of any food items and sundries.

We have a focus on sustainability and community building.

They can also bring some things from home if they have things they have a lot of in the garden or something in their pantry they won't use. There is no need for parents to buy products as we are all about reusing and sustainability.

Cheers,

Nunawading Pantry"

Have a great week!

Independence Centre Teachers,

Brooke, Ros, Meg, Sam, Kathy and Katrina

Reminders:

  • Please ensure hats and water bottles are brought to school each day
  • We would appreciate any donations of tissue boxes
