Business Services
The Year 11 class of 20 students are working very well through their course and assessments, and have all undertaken work placement over the last few weeks. Students were placed at a range of venues, such as car and truck dealerships, hotels, real estate agencies and council venues such as the PCYC, along with many others. Mater Dei is very grateful for the support provided by local businesses in hosting our students.
Construction
Our Construction class has nearly completed the build of their dog kennels, with roofing, flashing and painting still to be undertaken. A wide range of industry-level construction tools, materials, and techniques are being used to produce a quality product. The first round of work placements has been completed with many students enjoying the week where they could demonstrate their skills and knowledge in industry.
Many of our Hospitality students are currently completing their final work placements within the hospitality industry this term, gaining invaluable real-world experience. We extend our sincere gratitude to the local businesses that have generously supported our hospitality students by providing these opportunities.
As part of their Non-Alcoholic Beverage unit of competency, students have been actively involved in delivering four service periods, honing their skills in beverage preparation and customer service.
Additionally, students have recently completed their Prepare and Serve Simple Dishes unit, and we are pleased to see significant improvements in their cooking techniques, workflow, and overall professionalism. Congratulations to all students on their hard work and dedication - your progress is commendable.
All of our Manufacturing and Engineering students have completed their required 35 hours of Work Placement and are now focusing on completing their toolbox which we hope to have finished late this term. Our next project and unit of work is focusing on creating a basic machined project which will develop the students skills further with a range of machinery.
Currently, students are working busily to create a Christmas Chaos shop, to meet components of the ‘Deliver and monitor a service to customers’ unit. They will be selling Christmas cards and gift tags; which they have hand made, along with second hand books to purchase as Christmas gifts. All money raised will go towards the Vinnies Christmas appeal.
