Music

Year 7 Music students have developed keyboard, ukulele and guitar skills with repertoire based on Film music this term. Students learnt about the functions of music within film music soundtracks and have analysed the concepts of music and their treatment to convey these functions. Students also composed a film music soundtrack for a scene they wrote using Soundtrap and performed various popular film music repertoire.
This term Year 8 focused on the topics of Rock and Pop Music with students participating in learning activities involving performing, listening and composing. Students increased their performance skills and confidence levels through participation in weekly Rock Ensemble lessons in Music 1 where they were able to choose vocals, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, bass guitar, keyboard or drum kit as their focus instrument.
The semester ensemble performances culminated in a pop-up lunch-time concert with students performing: Eye of a Tiger, Sweet Child ‘O’ Mine and Mamma Mia. Students are to be congratulated on their engagement and overall effort in Music throughout the Semester.
Year 9 students have enjoyed developing both individual and ensemble performance skills throughout the semester. Year 9 Music students performed the classic Rock song, It’s a Long Way to the Top by AC/DC at the lunchtime pop up concert, featuring Alec Bell-Magnone on lead vocals, Harrison Uphill on lead guitar, George Chigwidden on bass guitar, Harry Saxon (Year 8) on rhythm guitar and Don Darrel Asare-Darkwa on Drum Kit. The whole class have engaged in ensemble performances throughout the semester performing songs by Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars, The Cranberries and Coldplay. The class are to be commended on their positive and enthusiastic approach to all learning in Music.
Year 10 Music have just completed their final individual performances for the year. Various styles of music were presented including heavy metal and theatre music. This included the bands Metallica and also the musical, Bonnie and Clyde.
Year 12 Music completed their first Topic for their Music 1 course this term, which was ‘An Instrument and its Repertoire,’ which involved students researching a genre showcasing their chosen instrument. This then led to students creating a major composition based on their chosen instrument. There was a broad spectrum of genres represented in the class, including: Heavy Rock (guitar), Motown (bass guitar), Acapella (vocals), Rock (bass guitar) and Jazz (trombone). Students are now choosing their electives for the HSC and workshopping various performance repertoire leading up to their HSC practical exam next year. We wish the Year 12 Music 1 students well as they begin their HSC journey.
