CELEBRATING OUR FAITH

A lovely Mass was celebrated on Friday with 4WL leading the Mass for Stage 2. It was the feast of Peter Julian Eymard, who had a deep love for the Eucharist. During this Mass, some Year 3 students made their commitment as they begin to prepare for the sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy COmmunion in September.
This Friday at 9:30am at Sacred Heart Church, Year 9 will lead the Secondary Mass on the feast day of St Teresa Benedicta, also known as Edith Stein. Edith was born on the 12 of October 1891 into a Jewish family. Her Jewish origin prevented her from pursuing some life goals, however Edith studied at a university, completing a doctorate in philosophy.
Edith was always searching for ‘the truth’, and as a young teenager she experienced a religious crisis and stopped believing. Edith later discovered the Roman Catholic faith through a close friend who she had witnessed go through hardships and had a deep faith in the Lord. At the age of 21 Edith was baptised into the catholic faith, and at 33 she joined a Carmelite convent in Cologne, taking the religious name Teresa Benedicta of the Cross.
With the Nazi threat to Jews growing in Germany, Teresa was transferred to the Carmelite convent in the Netherlands, where it was thought she would be safe from persecution. However, due to her Jewish origin, Teresa was taken by the Nazi’s to the Auschwitz concentration camp. Survivors of the death camp testified that Teresa helped all other sufferers with great compassion. St Teresa Benedicta of the Cross was canonized in October 1998.
Last term our Year 7 students were introduced to the Vinnies Service Medallion (VSM) Program. The VSM program offers a fantastic opportunity for students to engage in meaningful community service activities, develop valuable life skills, and earn formal recognition for their efforts.
VSM is an opt-in program, if you would like your Year 7 child to be involved, please scan the QR Code and fill in the form.
Please note that school Mass times are now 9:30 am at Sacred Heart Church. Please remember that hot beverages should not be brought into the church.
