Year 10
A school which is founded upon Gospel values as personified by Christ, Salvado Catholic College is determined to work with parents to nurture respectful young adults. Guided by Christ’s example, our students are challenged to show respect to themselves, each other and their world. If the College fails to hold students to account for their behaviours, how are we helping them get the best out of themselves? How are we ensuring that our young people are readying themselves for the real world?
Students who respect themselves will come to school prepared for the day. They will be dressed in a manner which befits College expectations and they will complete daily tasks to the best of their ability. Importantly, students who respect themselves pause and reflect before making a decision. With our Year Ten students maturing towards everything that comes with being an 18-year-old, it is vital that the College and families work in partnership to nurture self-respectful young adults.
Students who respect others will be mindful that their behaviour can directly impact others. Therefore, they will not make decisions which impede the learning of their peers. Importantly, students will also show respect to all staff members, female and male alike, irrespective of their position within the school. As they reflect before making a poor decision, students are encouraged to think, ‘if my Mum or Dad were to observe this behaviour, would they be proud of me?’ or ‘how would I feel if someone acted towards my Mum or Dad in this way?’ If we are to ensure that Salvado Catholic College graduates will be an authentic asset to the adult world, the school and parents, in partnership, will sometimes need to have difficult conversations which aim to grow students’ capacity to demonstrate respect.
Salvado Catholic College is located on picturesque grounds. Thoughtful planning decisions have ensured that majestic eucalyptus trees sway, albeit sometimes aggressively, to the breeze that bounces off the background hills. Blessed with modern buildings and beautifully landscaped gardens, Salvado students are very lucky students. Respectful Salvado students will look after this environment by caring for their facilities. They will show that they care for Creation by ensuring that they are responsible for cleaning up after themselves. It is important that all young people develop a sense of awe for their environment. We must collectively treat it with respect so that it can be enjoyed by generations to come.
Year 10 students and their families are currently making appointments with Mrs Merry, Mr Johns and myself to select Year 11 pathways. It is important that this process is completed in a timely manner as student selections will directly inform the College’s operational needs, specifically in relation to staffing. It would be appreciated if all families could ensure these appointments are conducted before Friday, August 23.
While Horton chased after, with groans, over stones that tattered his toenails and battered his bones, and begged, 'Please don't harm all my little folks, who have as much right to live as us bigger folks do!'
