Jenes for Genes/Green and Gold Day

A reminder it is Jenes for Genes Day tomorrow, raising money and awareness for research into Genetic Disorders or Birth Defects in children to find cures, so kids affected can get back to just being kids.

All students are also invited to wear, green and gold ribbons, green and gold socks, their favourite Australian jersey, or an Australian team hat to celebrate the Australian Olympic team in Paris. Please note this will also be Jeans for Genes Day, so students will also be wearing denim jeans and jackets. Students are not allowed to wear green and gold earrings, jewellery or face paint

Grandparents' Day

We look forward to seeing all of the grandparents who will be joining us next Friday 9 August. We will write to those registered for this event with further details such as parking arrangements.

Please note that the RSVP date has been extended to this Friday 2 August. RSVP is essential.

Week 5 is Maths Week!

Next week is Maths Week at Clayfield College and we are joining the Matific Olympiad!

All students in Prep to Year 6 can log onto Matific and earn points, with individual and school prizes up for grabs. There may be additional online maths homework for the week, and we hope you can support your child to reach their goal and potential.

Short Story Competition

We have a very exciting competition leading up to Book Week this year! The competition will be held in the LRC. Does your child LOVE making up stories or letting their imagination run wild? Then this competition might be for them! This year for Book Week, we are holding a short story competition across the Primary School. There will be three categories, Prep to Year 1, Year 2 to Year 4 and Year 5 to Year 6. Each category will have prizes for the winners and each winner will have their short story published in The Collective!

To enter the competition, your child will need to do the following:

  1. Write an original story based around this year’s Book Week theme: Reading is Magic. This can include anything to do with magic or magical elements, it is totally up to your child’s imagination!
  2. Make sure their story has a beginning, a middle and an end.
  3. Email their short story to Ms Harris (kharris@clayfield.qld.edu.au) or Mrs Ash (kash@clayfield.qld.edu.au) by Friday 16 August.

The winners will be announced at our Book Week Character Parade on Friday 23 August. We cannot wait to read your wonderful stories. Happy writing!

Book Fair

Thank you to all those parents who support our Book Fairs and Book Clubs by ordering from the wish lists and magazines. Through your support, we have been able to order a large number of excellent teaching resources from the generated Scholastic Rewards, allowing us to provide books for every classroom!

Our next Book Fair run by Larrikin Books will be here during Book Week. There will also be a second Scholastic Book Fair just before Christmas, with a buy-one get-one free offer, perfect for stocking fillers or presents!

The Big Chop

Every year hundreds of Australians in the community take on the challenge of Losing their Locks to help raise funds and awareness for childhood cancer research. By taking part in Lose Your Locks, the money funded goes towards supporting bold science that has the greatest chance of clinical success to improve childhood cancer treatments.
