Welcome back to school to all our Junior School students and families. It was lovely to see the Junior students return to school looking rested and excited to reconnect with their friends and teachers. We are looking forward to another action-packed term of learning and fun, the Junior School’s production of Matilda Jr!, Science Week and Book Week.

Wellbeing

The Year 5s and 6s were invited to the Senior School Assembly to hear guest motivational speaker, aerial skier Jacqui Cooper. Having participated in 5 Olympics, as well as appearing on the World Cup podium 40 times for a total of 24 gold medals, Jacqui Cooper is Australia’s most successful World Cup athlete. The students were riveted by her entertaining and inspiring talk that outlined the vital role of attitude in determining success and wellbeing. Jacqui explained it was her approach to change and managing setbacks that was the key to her champion attitude.

She recounted taking time during the Covid-19 Melbourne lockdowns to go through her athlete diaries that documented every step of her journey as an aerial skier. To her surprise, she discovered that she only successfully landed 20% of her jumps, despite being the Greatest of All Time in her sport. Jacqui is adamant that the learning that occurred from the 80% of failed jumps is the key to her continued improvement and stellar success. This was an invaluable opportunity for our students to benefit from Jacqui’s wisdom and lived experience.
