The College Co-Curricular

Who's Who at MCHF -  By Elias Chalhoub

Co-curricular activities supplement the formal academic curriculum by offering students chances to delve into their interests, acquire fresh skills, and expand their perspectives. These activities go beyond the traditional classroom setting, encompassing a wide range of experiences that contribute to the holistic development of students.

2024 Colour Run & Walkathon- September 11

All slimed out!

As we draw closer to our anticipated Colour run, we celebrated key milestones in our fundraising campaign. What a way to mark the special occasion then with slime!

For reaching over $40 000, our top fundraising classes went in the draw and representatives from each class were given the opportunity to throw slime at Ms Thorpe Our Head of Teaching and Learning, Ms Bou-Melhem, our K-12 Pastoral Coordinator and Mr Asmar, our Head of College.

Let's keep up the great work, help us reach over $ 50,000 to support the new works for a much-needed playground. If your child has not yet created a profile, please set this up as soon as possible. The instructions have been sent via the parent portal. If you have any questions regarding this event, please email Mrs Bou-melhem our K-12 Pastoral Coordinator (cboumelhem@mchf.edu.au)

Two of our Year 7 students, Lea Sukkar and Ella Rose Botros, have been announced as finalists in the Day of AI's Dolphin Tank 2024 competition!

Their project, Aqua AI, was selected from national entries for its innovation in using AI to address climate change and pollution in our local waterways. China Trip!

Over the July school holidays, Mrs Lim of St Maroun’s College and Elias Chalhoub of MCHF travelled to China to participate in a Youth Cultural Exchange Program in Beijing through the ANC company. Over the course of the two weeks, Mrs Lim and Elias visited The Forbidden City, The Summer Palace and The Great Wall of China with representatives from other Sydney based schools, learning about Chinese architecture, traditions and cuisine. The remainder of the trip was spent as Teachers and Buddies, teaching Chinese students English, STEM, Sport and Leadership in an Australian style classroom, with a focus on Indigenous and Australian culture and participating in Chinese cultural activities such as calligraphy and paper cutting. The trip was closed with a trek up Tianhuang Mountain and a closing ceremony where their students showed off their new skills and abilities made over the course of the week.  It was an incredible experience for both Mrs Lim and Elias, who loved getting to know their Chinese students and make new friends.

MAX Potential Year 11

Five Year 11 students were nominated to participate in the Max Potential Program. The program is an innovative youth leadership and development program that allows participants to engage in.

Breakfast Buddies

We demonstrate our college motto to "know, love, and serve" in many ways.

This can be seen through the love of service with our breakfast club volunteers, who serve cereal to our K-12 students every Wednesday and Friday.

Thank you to our 2024 Breakfast Buddies Sponsors, Kellogg's & NSW Electrical Corp

Public Speaking and Communications Master Class

Over the last 5 weeks, selected Year 11 and 12 students participated in a Public Speaking & Communications class. This was run by international keynote speaker Matt Cogin, who is working with schools such as Knox Grammar, TARA, Marist and organisations such as John Holland Group and Universities across the state.

This was an incredible journey of growth for our students. The workshops challenged them to think about their inner and outer voice, their presence and ability to engage the audiences. We stayed back till 6pm each week and on Monday we finished off with a TEDX Talk. Each student had to present a 5 minute TEDX talk to put their skills into practice. These students worked very hard and although not all made it to the end, we still commend them of their efforts.

“The Step Up Program Masterclass by Matt Cogin, about public speaking and communication was an amazing experience that exceeded all my expectations. Honestly, I didn’t think I was going to learn as much as I actually did. Each session was not only highly productive but also incredibly effective. The program's approach made such a positive significant impact, , leaving me with newfound knowledge and confidence. Thank you for such a transformative experience, can’t wait to see how else I can use my stepped-up skills!”- Emily Farah, Year 11 Master Class student

Chinese Short Stay students

This week our College welcomed another group of Chinese short stay students who experienced a week learning in our College. They were assigned buddies and joined in class activities and College events.

They concluded their visit with a farewell ceremony. It is great to hear the positive feedback our guests experienced during the week. As one of the students said “this is one week I will never forget for the rest of my life.”

Thank you to all our buddies for being tremendous role models and to the staff and students who welcomed our guests and for the hospitality they provided.
