Prep 100 Days/Olympic Day - Wednesday 7th August
This Wednesday at Scotsburn we will be celebrating our 2024 Preps with their 100th day of learning! This will be a wonderful celebration for the whole campus. On the same day, we will also be holding an Olympic-themed day, having a focus on “Scotsburn Champions”. Students will be able to come dressed in something Olympic-themed for a fun day of celebrations.
Scotsburn Day at Buninyong Campus - Thursday 8th August
This Thursday (8th August), all students and staff at the Scotsburn Campus will be relocating to the Buninyong Campus for the day. This is due to the Young Authors’ Program using the campus for the day for their second workshop. We are really excited to show off our beautiful campus to a program that will be inviting students from a range of schools across the Ballarat region.
This will mean that drop off and pick up on Thursday will be at Buninyong. We will be running our normal program including specialist classes with Ms Middlin out of learning spaces at Buninyong, with us also hopeful of making use of the library. For those catching the bus, normal bus arrangements will apply from the Buninyong Campus. Will will meet everyone in the courtyard at Buninyong at 8:45am.
Scotsburn Assembly - Friday 9th August
This Friday we will be holding our second Scotsburn Assembly for Term 3. As usual, it will be held at 3pm in the shed. We would love to see as many parents in attendance as possible, to share in all of the wonderful things that are happening at the campus. Hope to see you there!
Buninyong Community Playgroup Visit
This Friday, the Buninyong Community Playgroup will be having their second visit to the campus. They will be joining us from 9am - 11am, basing themselves out of the Japanese room as well as making use of other areas of the campus. If you happen to be around on Friday morning, please make them feel very welcome. We love having them here.
Concert Information
Prop Making Workshop
A massive thank you to those parents who have already expressed their interest in helping to make props for the concert. Liz now has a plan to get this underway in the next few weeks. Next Monday 12th August, Liz will be running a workshop in the Art Room at Scotsburn at 2 PM. This workshop will provide a bit of a guide of what is to be done and how everyone can help.
Then the plan will be open for parents to pop in and help where time permits. We will schedule each Friday at 2pm in the Art Room as a designated time, however we are also happy for parents to pop in wherever it works for them. The main jobs will be:
- Paper Mache on our brain sculpture and later adding paint and fabric to the brain
- Painting slogans on T-shirts for SC1
- Spray painting our brain hats pink.
A MASSIVE thanks to Jamie for all of her help with our “fixed mindset” signs!
Backstage Volunteer Roster
Thanks to those who have already put their name down for backstage help. If you are interested in helping backstage, click in the link below and add your name to the list. If there are more than two volunteers in any given timeslot, we will draw names out of a hat. We would love as many different parent helpers as possible.

Parent Survey
Just a reminder that parents and carers have received an invitation to participate in a Parent/Guardian Survey via Compass. We’d really appreciate you spending the time to complete that survey if you are selected.
The survey is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour and student engagement. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.
All responses to the survey are anonymous. This year, the Parents and Caregiver Opinion Survey will close on Friday August 30.
Surveys are conducted online, and only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE:
The survey can be accessed here https://www.orima.com.au/parent
All parents / caregivers / guardians at your school use the same six-digit PIN to access the survey.
Our school's generic PIN for the SCOTSBURN CAMPUS is: 252303
*Please note, there is a separate PIN for the Buninyong Campus. Buninyong families have received a different Compass notification
Auskick Opportunity
Last Thursday, our SC1 Grade 1 students had the opportunity to attend an Auskick clinic during lunchtime at the Buninyong Campus. It was a fun and engaging workshop where students practised some of those fundamental football skills. If you would like your child to participate in these clinics, please see the flyer below (also posted around the campus) or the whole school Compass message sent out last week.
SC1 Learning Snapshot
SC1 are looking forward to a fun week celebrating 100 Days of Learning alongside our Scotsburn Olympics Day this Wednesday. As mentioned above and last week, all students are welcome to come along to school dressed as ‘100 or Olympics themed’.
In English we have continued exploring non-fiction text types with mini-beast as our integrated topic. Last week a big focus was on subheadings, connecting students to the contents page and the importance of this feature. Students then wrote their own subheadings with the corresponding information. It is just amazing the quality of sentence structure and interesting information students are writing during these sessions.
In Maths, we have been identifying fractions - halves, quarters and eights. It has been great to see the connection students have made with fractions and real life scenarios, such as pizza and donuts! We are now going to link fractions with ‘Time’ this week as we start exploring analogue and digital clocks as well as time.
Please, as always, reach out if you have any questions. See you throughout the week.

SC2 Learning Snapshot
On Wednesday, SC2 are looking forward to our Scotsburn Olympics Day, alongside the Prep 100 Days celebration. All students in SC2 are welcome to come along to school dressed as their chosen country theme, or an Olympic sport theme costume. We will run some Olympic-themed activities throughout the day.
In English this week, students in SC2 are putting together their digital information report posters, about their chosen natural disasters. The key learnings this week are turning facts into well constructed paragraphs, as well as using informative subheadings. They are looking great!
In Maths, we turn our focus to data and graphing, using some of the excitement of the Olympics as a hook for learning. Students have been spending time collecting data and creating bar graphs to represent their results.
Our concert practice is coming along beautifully, and the excitement is building. If you are yet to purchase tickets for one of the shows, get in quickly because they are selling out fast! We can’t wait to put on a show. Again, if you are interested in getting involved in helping leading up to the concert or backstage, have a look at the information above, or come in and speak to us.
Have another fantastic week,
Jarrod and Liz
Scotsburn Intercampus Travel At times, Scotsburn students will be transported between campuses in order to attend classes, assemblies, special days and events. On most occasions, transport required through the day will be by bus and occasionally private car for smaller groups of students. Parents may be asked to drop off or collect from the Buninyong campus if sessions are at the beginning or ending of a day.
We will always let you know of any upcoming travel arrangements via our newsletter, Compass, or via phone for smaller, more specific travel arrangements.
If you ever have any questions or concerns regarding intercampus travel, please contact your child’s teacher. |
