Ballarat Young Authors’ Program

This coming Thursday our Ballarat Young Authors’ Program participants will be taking part in Workshop 2.

This workshop day is hosted by our school alongside Dana Street P.S and will be held at our Scotsburn Campus.  Thank you to the Scotsburn staff and students for their flexibility in relocating to the Buninyong Campus for the day, we really appreciate it!

Students will take part in four workshops throughout the day which will be run by local authors, a song writer and our participating teachers.

Please note, as per the Compass communication regarding this event,  if your child is part of the Young Authors’ Program, you will need to transport them to and from the Scotsburn Campus on Thursday, transport is not provided.

We are all looking forward to this wonderful opportunity and to make it even better, the weather forecast is looking fantastic, which will make for a perfect setting at our Scotsburn Campus.

We look forward to sharing some photos and student recounts of the day in next week’s newsletter.

Australian Mathematics Competition

Later this week selected high ability students in Years 3-6 will take place in the Australian Maths Trust Competition.

If your child has been selected for this competition, you will have received some information via Compass last week with all the details.

We congratulate all participants on being selected and wish them all the very best in their endeavours.

We look forward to sharing results with our school community later in the year.

BOOK WEEK

Book Week is approaching! As mentioned previously, students will not require a Book Week costume for this week. Instead, we will be running lots of other fun events during the week to celebrate Book Week.

One of the activities we will be holding is a free second handbook grab where students can come along and choose a book that has been donated by the school library or families. If your family has any books you would like to donate, please drop these into the front office. Thank you to the families who have already dropped off some wonderful books to be loved by someone else.

Another item on our book week agenda is a magic show at lunchtime. If your child has any special magic tricks or illusion show performances that they would like to share, please encourage them to get out their wand, cards or hats and start practising! Some students will come around next week with a sign-up sheet for those wishing to participate to sign up. All students are welcome to attend the magic show.

NATIONAL SCIENCE WEEK

National Science Week this year is from the 10th- 18th of August. We will be celebrating National Science Week at school during week 5 (12th-16th of August). Ms. Middlin and Mr Smith have put together a choice board of learning activities for teachers to work on with students when time permits.

There will also be some activities that all students can take part in. Lunchtime club will be participating in a national competition about saving Antarctica. More information will be shared about this competition in the morning announcements throughout the week.
