Somers Camp

Five lucky students from the 5/6 class represented Bittern Primary School by going to Somers School Camp. These people were Daisy, Dylan, Kayden, Kiri and Violet. This was a great opportunity for them as they were in a different environment where they made new friends, faced their fears and overcame challenges.

On the first day the students were all in different huts. Violet was in Hut 1, Kayden, Hut 3, Kiri, Hut 5, Dylan, Hut 6 and Daisy was in Hut 7. There were several different activities that the students were able to participate in over the course of the camp. One was the ‘Giant Swing’ which was very thrilling, as the air was filled with screams whilst it was active.

At night we went for a walk where we saw wildlife and every night a hut was picked for the nocturnal animal feeding where there was a Sugar Glider and a Bandicoot.

The flying activity was fun after the first go. There were two ziplines and you could go as fast as you wanted. We also participated in boating where we went down a river with a big white bridge. We had partners in tin boats with paddles. These boats had cool names such as Bob, Titanic, and Eel. We were allowed to ride upstream and back. For the second lesson we went downstream and back, and we were able to paddle by ourselves.

The food at Somers camp was delicious. Each morning for breakfast we had toast, cereal and sometimes pancakes. The table hosts had pancakes, eggs and bacon. For lunches we had burgers, hot dogs and ham and cheese rolls. Dinners consisted of things like vegetables, pasta and meat. Dessert was either frog in a pond, jelly, ice cream or chocolate mousse.

We all had a wonderful time, and we thank Mrs Herbert for coming to visit us whilst we were there.
