Hands on Learning (HoL) update Term 3 week 3

Recently in HoL we have planted and been tending to all sorts of seeds and seedlings including Turnips, Tomatoes, Carrots, Peas, Lettuce, Rhubarb and Broccoli. We have completed our Hands on Learning sign. We were lucky to receive a donation of tools from Plantfulness.  We are very grateful for this.

We have had lots of circle time working on our focus plans. These include:

  • Encourage others to follow your lead
  • Use your initiative - see a job, do it
  • Keep your focus for the duration of the task
  • Make a decision confidently
  • Listen respectfully when people are talking to you about your behaviour

Here is what our students say about HoL.

In HoL – Hands on Learning- I really enjoyed making the HoL sign. On Thursday the 25th of July we made a type of P frame for some peas to grow under. We used string and sticks. I love coming to HoL because every job we do, we do it in a fun way. – M

In Hands on Learning I really enjoyed doing the HoL sign. We learn in a fun way. – C

Hands on Learning is a great program. One thing we do is help the environment, plant seedlings, another thing is making food (and other stuff) – D

In Hands on Learning I like planting turnips. As I am hoping to sell them when they have grown. - D

The Treehouse Program

Natalie from wellbeing/Anglicare alongside Deb from Anglicare, are excited to have started the evidenced based group called Treehouse at our school.

This group consists of 8 students at a time focusing on different topics within the 8-week program.

The group provides students with the opportunity to

  • Celebrate their personal strengths.
  • Identify supports available to them.
  • Help them identify strategies to cope with and sooth these feelings.
  • Connect and share learnings with parent/carer.
  • Supports students with worry, anxiety, grief/loss, and different emotion feelings.
