Visual Arts
Visual Arts in Term 3 has kicked off with a bang. Students across year levels are working with air dry clay to create visual masterpieces. Our student artists are discovering how to bring the shapes they worked with in Term 2 into the third dimension. Students are discovering how to manipulate the materials to create their desired outcomes. Different techniques are being explored across year levels, including the pinch pot technique and the slip/score technique.

PE
Great to be back on board everyone, seeing everyone's smiling faces. A very big term coming up in PE and predominantly inter school competition. Let's get into it as a run down.
Week 5 - August 15th
House athletics at Western Port Secondary College. Always a huge and fun day. What a great tie in with the Olympics. To make it work we need helpers on events so let me know if you are able. We also need you to get the note approvals done asap via Compass. The day is used for selection for upper grades for District athletics, to have fun, find winning houses as part of working as a team and also individual champions based on standardized results. PE is predominantly tracking athletics with skill development focussed on take off and landing combinations, running form, relays and throwing.
Week 7 - August 29th
Based on House Athletic results, we send our Bittern team to Mornington Athletics track to compete against other district schools. Students have the opportunity to progress through to State Finals.
Week 8 - Swimming Lessons
This runs for one week every day within week 8 (Monday September 2nd to Friday September 6th) at Pelican Park and will be offered to all students F-6. Notes will be posted shortly to Compass with costs and details so get in fast if you want a spot. This is the perfect launch pad to gaining swimming competency. What greater gift to give your child and who knows, we may find the next Ariarne Titmus?
Week 9 - September 12th Rugby Gala Day
Melbourne Storm are running a Rugby Gala Day for our district at Graham Myers Reserve. It is a day of skills and then competition tag (no tackle). For anyone wo has been involved before, it is a great day. The Storm bring down a plethora of coaches and the great thing is being free and able to walk to the venue. A note will be posted to Compass soon to register interest for teams.

Auslan
Foundation
The Foundation class has begun learning about animals in Auslan this term, through the use of a well known story: There was an old woman who swallowed a fly. This week we are moving on to the story: There was an old woman who swallowed the sea.
Grade One and Two
In Auslan, the Year One and Year Two students have begun the term by revisiting their sign names from Term Two. They are now beginning to learn the signs for a new song about the alphabet. This has been a fun way to start the term and I look forward to them sharing this soon.
Grade Three to Six
The Year Three to Six students have also been practising their sign names this term along with the signs for the facade of their house. They are now learning about signs for other areas of the house such as the kitchen, laundry etc.

Performing Arts
Music has commenced with enthusiasm this term. With the end of the year just around the corner, we are starting to think about items for the End of Year Concert. We have been practising some stories with musical sound effects and learning new songs that may be the main event in our end of year concert.
Prep and Grade 1/2 have been practising their beat and rhythmic skills with percussion instrument, in particular the rhythm and drum sticks. I am impressed with the children's' ability to listen and correctly echo a series of musical beats and phrases. The middle and senior classes have been learning the song 'TOTO' by Africa and exploring the musical rhythms and rich culture of this song. Rock Recorder is a main focus within our lessons and the children now have 4 songs in their repertoire.
