Prep News

Since our last newsletter the Prep students have been extremely busy with their learning and play! At the end of Term 2 we had a visit from Debbie from Bunnings. For our Science topic of 'Change’ we planted some seedlings to take home. We also planted some seedlings into a garden bed in the school courtyard.

Literacy

In Literacy this term we have now covered all of the initial code letter sounds. We have been learning all the lowercase letter sounds and how to write them with the correct formation. We have started learning digraphs. Digraphs are a combination of 2 letters making 1 sound - like 'sh', 'ch', th', 'wh'.

We have also been using our Hand Writing books to learn to write the uppercase letters and place our writing on lines.

In our reading sessions we have focussed on The Three Little Pigs fairy tale. We have listened to several versions of the text and learnt about the characters, setting, problem and solution of a narrative text. We followed directed drawing instructions to draw the 3 pigs and the wolf. We also worked with our Year 5/6 Buddies to complete a colour/cut/paste task. We learnt a song about the story and talked about adjectives to describe the pigs and the wolf.

We have been learning to use tally marks and addition and subtraction equations to make the number of the day. We have been talking about the numbers before and after and how to count in various ways. During our Olympic theme we have been learning ordinal  numbers.

Learning Through Play

We have also had lots of fun in our ‘Learning through Play’ sessions. We build, create, design, problem solve, use our imaginations and work as a team.
