Principal News

Welcome to Term 3!

Launch of our new BPS website.

It is with great excitement that we announce the launch of the new Bittern Primary School Website.  This project has been a massive amount of work and the end result is impressive. This school website is the hub of our school communications providing an online platform to celebrate our school's achievements and celebrations, present our school policies and procedures and communicate what is happening in our school.

Use this link to view the website http://bitternps.vic.edu.au/

This content on our website is constantly expanding and changing so please check in regularly to view these updates.

The Olympics are here!

The new Olympic motto now reads in Latin “Citius, Altius, Fortius – Communiter” and “Faster, Higher, Stronger – Together” in English.  This is a great motto and resonates with our vision at Bittern PS to be stronger together to provide a positive school culture that strengthens student's academic success.

I am excited about the commencement of the Olympic Games with the swimming and diving being my choice of viewing over the next few weeks.

We will be engaging in Olympics activities and learning themes over the next 2 weeks. Don't forget to wear GREEN and GOLD on Friday 2nd August to support our Australian Olympic Team.

School Council

Are you interested in joining our School Council?  School Council currently has 2 vacancies and we are asking our parent/carers to consider joining us on school council.  As a school council member you play a vital role in the operations of our school.  If you are interested in joining our team, please contact the office to speak with Sally.

Parent/Guardian/Caregiver Opinion Survey

WE WANT OUR PARENTS / CAREGIVERS / GUARDIANS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!

Our school is conducting the annual Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey offered by the Department of Education and is seeking your feedback. The survey is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement. The survey is optional, but we encourage and appreciate your participation.

Our school will use the survey results to assist in identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies.

The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey will be open online from Friday August 2nd to Friday 30 August 2024. A link and PIN will be sent out to families via the newsfeed in Compass.

Capital Works Update

The pipe and pump systems for the new Fire System were installed which required a great deal of earthworks.  Currently our grounds are quite muddy and some areas have been sectioned off to our school community. These areas will be reinstated and repaired over the next 2 months.  The deck and a new retaining wall between the current library and Mod 5 is being built and the structures for the shade stall have been installed.

In other facility news, we have employed contractors to remove potentially dangerous trees from our playground as advised by our arborist report.  Safety is priority and it is essential that our play areas are safe for our school community. We have received a grant that will enable us to replace the trees that have been removed at a ratio of 2:1. This planting will occur after the Capital Works project is complete, hopefully by the end of the year.

Our school grounds are transforming before our very eyes! We cannot wait to see the end result in a few months time. It is anticipated that works will be completed by the end of the year. We are already starting to plan a special celebration to mark the opening of our new learning spaces.

Child Safe

WHAT are CHILD SAFE STANDARDS?

HOW do I LEARN more about the CHILD SAFE STANDARDS?

Bittern Primary School is committed to the safety and wellbeing of all children and young people.

Our school has a Child Safe Statement of Commitment that describes the values and principles that guide our school to create and maintain a child safe environment and protect children from child abuse.

This statement of Commitment can be found on the Bittern PS website.

Child Safe Standards focus on creating a safe environment for children.  To create and maintain a child safe organisation, all Victorian schools must comply with Ministerial Order No. 870 - Child Safe Standards, which came into effect 1 August 2016.
