Year 6: 100 Words for 100 Days

Melissa Soutter, Year 6 Teacher

Tuesday 23rd of July saw DCC overtaken by a crowd of centenarians as Year 6 dressed up to celebrate 100 days left in their Primary school journey. Students looked amazing with their grey hair, suspenders and walking sticks. Spending the day partaking in activities including planting trees, playing old fashion games, and weaving bracelets, they not only had fun but also created lasting memories.

The hot chocolates and doughnuts provided by FOD added a sweet touch to an already delightful day. The celebration was a heart warming reminder of the journey the students have undertaken and the exciting future that lies ahead.

Prep: Mont De Lancey Excursion

Brie Price, Prep Teacher

Our Prep students had a wonderful time at Mont De Lancey last week, diving into the past and discovering the charm of the olden days. The day began with a tour of the historic homestead, where we marvelled at the outdoor laundry and old-fashioned toilet. The highlight was pretending to have a wedding in the quaint chapel, which made us all feel like we were stepping back in time.

We attended a class in the old schoolhouse, writing numbers on the blackboard just like children did 100 years ago. The hands-on activities were a hit, especially when we helped the blacksmith turn metal and watched the wood turner create a spinning top. Playing on billy carts brought plenty of laughs and excitement.

To end our adventure, we made fragrant lavender bags and peg dolls, a perfect keepsake from our day. It was an excellent experience that brought history to life for our Prep students.

Year 3: Zoo Excursion

Bryce Morgan, Year 3 Team Leader

It could be said that the best time to go to the zoo is in the rain, for you may have it almost all to yourself. The Year 3s recently visited the Melbourne Zoo with much excitement and anticipation. No rain was going to hold them back as they explored and investigated as part of our 'God's Wild World' Inquiry unit.

The students are exploring how animals have been created to survive and thrive in the differing environments of Africa, Australia and South America. Elephants, giraffes, gorillas, lions, collared peccaries, seals, lizards and many more animals were highlights for many students who rugged up and enjoyed spending time together as it sparked their imagination for the learning to come.

We want to say a big thank you to all of our many parent helpers who made the excursion possible. The staff and students were blessed by their 'can do' attitude.
