Student Leadership Update
As our Year 12 School Captains and Vice Captains shift their focus to their end of year exams, our fabulous Year 11 Leadership Program Mentees have taken on the challenge of running our four student leadership committees.
These fabulous leaders have successfully planned and delivered our first Term 4 out of uniform fundraiser for R U OK Day, and have been working hard collaborating with Key Learning Area Leaders to deliver engaging events for Create Week, and compile revision resources for Year 11 students about to take on their Unit 2 exams.
A massive shout out to these wonderful leadership for the dedication and passion they are bringing to the student leadership team.

R U OK Day
Friday the 20th of October, the student leadership team came together and organised an amazing school wide pyjama day and lunchtime movie to celebrate R U OK Day. R U OK Day is a national event that aims to generate public discussion about mental health, and checking in with others.
Here at THS, mental health is our number one priority when it comes to teachers or students, so acknowledging days such as this, is an important reminder of that to all of us.
On the day hundreds of students dressed up in their best pjs, some in sleep masks and others in full button up sets, bringing in gold coin donations to go towards the Berry Street Foundation; a charity that aims to provide a safe space for those suffering in poverty, violence and abuse.
Overall, we raisied just over $500, an amazing amount contributed by students from year seven all the way to year eleven.
At lunchtime with the help of tons of student helpers and teachers, we screened ‘Inside Out’ in the auditorium with lolly bags for students, which ended up being an amazing turn out.

Create Week
The Arts Committee collaborated with the Performing and Visual Arts Departments during Create Week, allowing students to show off their talents with Create Week Themed Arts Club and the Thornbury’s Got Talent finals taking place.
Students who attended Art Club at lunchtime on Thursday were given inspirational posters to decorate with textas, pencils, oil pastels and watercolour paints. Some students also made jewellery such as bracelets and earrings. The result was a colourful and creative success with each student decorating their posters in different ways, making their own original artworks or creating beautiful jewellery to wear!
Thursday evening, the finalists of Thornbury’s Got Talent took to the stage! A great turnout of friends and family came along to support the performers, cheering them on and applauding them as they performed their talent under the spotlights.
Each performer gave their all but ultimately first place went to our Year 9 dance group - Poppy, Moushmi, Leah and Matilda, who were followed in second place by Astrid Fox, with her beautiful rendition of Joni Mitchell, and third place to Joe Joyce with his impressive guitar playing!
Honorary mentions went to Lucas Damjanovic for his incredible Michael Jackson dancing and Alice Lumsden, Gracie Schumacher, Bee Harrison and Olivia Walker for their German Modern Impressionism act. Well done to everyone involved!
