Important Plymouth Road Crossing Updates

With civil works complete, the new signals are expected to be active from late-November, before the end of school term and following approvals from the power authority. If the new street lighting is not connected by the power authority at the time of signals switch-on we will provide temporary lighting at Midhurst Road and Kirtain Drive.

Following the upgrades there will be changes in operations at the pedestrian crossings on Plymouth Road:

The new Midhurst Road crossing outside Luther College includes technology that detects people at the crossing and extends time to enable pedestrians to safely cross the road (including at peak times like school arrival and departure). The upgrade of this crossing to a pedestrian operated signal provides a safe crossing point suitable for students to cross on their own.  A supervisor will remain on site until the end of Term 4 2023 for a transitional period.

  • At Kirtain Drive the new signalised intersection which will be monitored by Council to ensure the number of primary school students who use the crossing is in line with the current warrants.  Pending the pedestrian count of primary aged students, a single supervisor may be placed at this site (on the south-west corner to manage the two legs when lights change).
  • The existing signalised midblock crossing on Plymouth Road located outside Good Sheppard Primary School has upgrades to lanterns, school detector loops and tactile ground surface indicators (TGSIs).
