Physical Education

During physical education sessions students participated in a dry land swimming program focusing on water safety. They then had the opportunity last week to take part in the swimming program at Aqualink in Nunawading.

Visual Arts

Last week, to accompany their swimming programme, the year ones were introduced to the artist David Hockney.  Hockney is famous for his paintings of swimming pools.

We looked at the way Hockney used white lines and different shades of blue to create the impression of rippling water in a pool.

The students were challenged to draw a picture of themselves in a swimming pool and use white oil crayons and watercolour paint to create a background inspired by Hockney’s works. I think they have done a brilliant job!

French

In French, all students are being assessed at the moment and the Senior grades are finishing their portfolio pieces.

In Prep and Year 1, the last topic of this year will be pet names:

In Year 2, the students will apply their knowledge of French numbers to learn how to write an address and to ask the question 'where do you live?'.

In Years 3 and 4, we will focus on revisions for the rest of the Term, with topics such as colours and numbers, as well as vocabulary topics studied last year.

Finally, the students in Years 5 and 6 will revise the concept of noun and adjective genders, applied to the topic of clothes and fashion.

STEAM

Last week the Foundation students read a new book called, A Good Day for a Hat, where we looked at what hats would be good for a sunny or wet day. Bear sure does have a lot of hats!

Grade 1 and 2 students have started to look at how they could redesign a product in our school environment - for example, could the garden be designed in a better way to meet our needs? I'm looking forward to seeing what they come up with!

Grade 3 students have now turned their attention to how they can represent something melting. They have many choices, they could make a poster, a StopMotion video or use art. Again, I'm looking forward to seeing the creative ways that they decide on.

5/6 students turned their attention to what happens when we mix citric acid, bi-carb and water and the different combinations of these.  It sure was a fun session!

Our new clue was also revealed - who made the mess in the STEAM room? Is it someone who likes Uno? Stay tuned for next week's clue.
